Blue Frock: To be made of serge, of the same pattern,
except the blue-jean collar and wristbands. No knife-
pocket. Dimensions the same as for white frock.
Shirt: Check, with blue collar; to be worn only under the
blue frock.
Jumpers: Blue serge or white duck, to extend from 2in.
to 3in. below the hip, with a knife-pocket on left breast.
White jumpers to be bound round the bottoms and ends
of sleeves with blue jean, 1/2in. wide. Collars to be of
same pattern as those of the frocks. Serge jumpers to
be of same dimensions as for white frock.
Serge Trousers: To be tied in at the back with navy-blue
tape.
Flannels: To be cut square across the breast and close up
to the neck so as to afford protection to the chest, with a
narrow 1/2in. blue binding round the neck; sleeves
optional.
Hat: To be made of sennet, with oval crown, 3in. high;
brim to be straight, 3 1/2in. wide, and inclined upwards to
the extent of 1in., with a hat-ribbon.
A chin-stay to be attached to the hat.
On occasions of ceremony hats are to be worn.
Cap: The cap to be made round, of navy-blue cloth, and
partially stiffened across the crown, similar in shape to
that worn by officers, without the peak. Diameter across
the crown, 9in.; with a ribbon.
A chin-stay to be attached to the cap.
Woollen Comforter: Dark blue.

  1. Working Suit :-
    Jumper: Duck, without blue collar or binding, with a
    knife-pocket.
    Trousers: Duck.

  2. Night Suit:-
    Blue serge.

NOTE. -White frocks and jumpers are to have a distinguishing
watch-stripe of blue jean upon the outer part of one sleeve, at
the junction of the sleeve and body; and blue frocks and
jumpers are to have a similar stripe of red braid. Men in the
starboard watch are to wear the stripe on the right arm, and
those in the port watch on the left arm.

Marks of Distinction.
Petty Officers, Leading Gunners, and Gunners.

  1. All chief and other petty officers and leading gunners
    are to wear on the upper part of the left sleeve of their long or
    round jackets the following marks of distinction :-
    Chief Petty Officers: Crown and anchor encircled with
    oak leaves:
    First Class Petty Officers: Crown and cross anchor:
    Second Class Petty Officers: Crown and anchor:
    Leading Gunners: The anchor.

On the blue frock and blue jumper and on the pea-jacket
these badges are to be worked in white, and in blue upon the
white jackets, frocks, and jumpers.

The tape trimmings of the white frock to be waved in the
same manner as the braid on the coat-sleeves of the officers.

All badges are to be of silver embroidery on the jackets, and
of silver or white on the blue serge. On the white frock they
are to be blue.

The cap- and hat-ribbons to have a crown and anchor in front,
with the letters N.A.V. above.

The crown and anchor and letters to be embroidered in silver
on a black-silk ribbon.

The letters to be 3/4in. in size.

  1. A badge of efficiency will be worn by men who have
    received a certificate of qualification, as provided for by para-
    graph 223:-

For Efficiency as Garrison Artillery: The badge will consist
of a gun embroidered in silver, worn on the right arm
above the wrist;

For Efficiency as Submarine Miners: The badge will consist
of a Whitehead torpedo embroidered in silver, worn
on the right arm above the wrist.

  1. Men who have obtained the certificate of qualification
    for three consecutive years will wear a badge consisting of two
    crossed guns, or torpedoes, embroidered in silver on the right
    arm above the wrist.

Cavalry and Mounted Infantry.
Officers.

  1. Patrol Jacket: Blue cloth, stand-up collar of scarlet cloth,
    2in. high, rounded in front, 3/4in. mohair lace at top and
    bottom of collar, figured braiding in centre, 1in. mohair
    braid traced with Russian braid all round, up the slits, and
    along the back seams. Five loops of 1in. mohair braid
    at equal distances down the front on each side, with two
    olivets on each loop, the top loops extending to the
    shoulder-seams and the bottom to 4in. The cuffs
    pointed with 1in. mohair braid, traced with Russian
    braid and figured braiding at top and bottom; the
    mohair braid reaches to 5in. from bottom of cuff, and
    the figured braiding at top to 8in. False pockets at sides,

edged round with 1in. mohair braid; figured braiding at
top of slits and at top of shoulder-seams; figured
braiding at centre of back, at the bottom of collar, and
bottom of jacket; figured braiding on the right, left,
and between the back seams; hooks and eyes in front,
black lining. Pocket inside left breast. Shoulder-straps
of the same material as jacket, edged with 1/2in. black-
mohair lace, except at bottom; black netted button at
top, initial letters of corps embroidered in silver on
bottom of strap, and badge of rank immediately above.

Trousers: Blue cloth, with two stripes of scarlet cloth 3/4in.
broad down the side seams; stripes to be 3/4in. apart.
When trousers are worn with boots and spurs, straps
will be worn.

Pantaloons: Blue cloth, with stripes down side seams as
on trowsers, or brown bedford-cord pantaloons.

Helmet: White, staff Imperial cavalry pattern, with spike
and button.

Forage-cap: Blue cloth, Imperial cavalry pattern, with
1/4in. silver-lace band, silver-purl button, and braided
figure in tracing-lace on crown; patent-leather chin-strap,
3/4in. broad.

Gloves: Brown dogskin, except for levées and public
ceremonies, when white buck will be worn.

Sword-belts: Black patent or morocco leather, 1 1/2in. wide,
with slings 1in. wide, plated or white-metal mountings,
with snake fastening.

Pouch-belt: Black patent or morocco leather, 2 1/2in. wide,
with plated or white-metal buckles, tip, and slide.

Sword: Imperial light cavalry pattern.

Sword-knot: Black plaited leather, with acorn.

Pouch: Black patent or morocco leather, 5 1/2in. long, 2 1/2in.
deep, with plated crown on leaf.

Boots: Knee, with crane-necked jack-spurs of steel or
white-metal, fastened with straps and buckles; the
knee-boots must be, as regards shape, of the Imperial
service pattern; the boot, which is sloped down at the
back, should reach in front to about 4in. from the top
of the knee, and at the back just to the top of the calf.

Corps are strongly advised against adopting full dress on
account of expense, but, should they decide to do so, they must
adopt the Hussar pattern, corps optional.

N.B.--The above regulations do not apply to the Canterbury
Yeomanry Cavalry, who have special permission to wear
scarlet.

  1. Horse furniture:---

Saddle-cloth: If worn, but is not recommended, should be
of stout blue cloth, lined with moleskin or other strong
material, so as not to wrinkle under the saddle, and
should be 3ft. long at bottom, and 2ft. deep, laced all
round with two stripes of 1 1/2in. scarlet-worsted lace,
1/2in. apart; at each hind corner the initial letters of the
troop in silver embroidery, surmounted by a crown.

Saddle: English hunting, plain stirrups, and white-worsted
girths, with regulation wallets.

Bridle: Brown-leather headstall, with ear bosses, hunting-bit
and bridoon or pelham, double reins and whole buckles.

Breastplate: Brown leather, hunting pattern.

Head-rope: White, 2 1/2in., 6ft. long, roll to be 6in. from
ring of headstall.

Troopers.

  1. Patrol Jacket: Blue cloth, with scarlet-cloth collar 2in.
    high, trimmed at top and bottom with 3/4in. mohair
    braid, and small figured braiding in centre; length,
    about 28in. from bottom of collar behind, but must not
    touch the saddle when mounted, rounded in front, and
    edged with 3/4in. mohair braid all round and up the
    openings at the sides; on each side, in front, four double
    drop-loops of 1/4in. flat plait, with eyes in the centre of
    each loop, the top loops extended to the shoulder-seam
    and the bottom ones to 4in., four netted olivets on the
    right side to fasten through the loops on the left; on
    each sleeve an Austrian knot of flat plait, 1/4in. wide, 7in.
    high from bottom of the cuff; double flat plait on each
    back seam, with crow's-foot at top and bottom; false
    pockets trimmed with 1/2in. mohair braid; hooks and eyes
    in front; shoulder-straps same material as jacket, edged
    with 1/2in. black-mohair braid except at base, initial letters
    of corps embroidered in white worsted on shoulder-
    straps; pocket inside left breast.

Trousers: Blue cloth, with two stripes of scarlet cloth 3/4in.
broad down the side seams, stripes to be 3/4in. apart.
When trousers are worn on parade, wellington boots
and steel spurs (either boxes or fastened on with screws)
will be worn with them, and foot-straps to trousers.

Pantaloons: Blue cloth, with stripes down side seams same
as on trousers or bedford-cord pantaloons.

Cloak: Either blue cloth or waterproof, Imperial cavalry
pattern.

Boots: Knee-boots, and jack spurs of white metal, or ankle-
boots, and brown-leather leggings and hunting-spurs.
