Notice to Mariners, No. 6 of 1889.
Marine Department,
Wellington, 9th March, 1889.
A SUMMARY containing all the notices received at the
Board of Trade during the preceding eight months of
any alterations in lights, buoys, and beacons, of any newly-
discovered dangers, or of alterations in or additions to the
Admiralty charts, is published monthly by the Board of
Trade, and issued on or about the 11th of each month.
Copies of this summary can be seen at the Customhouses
and at the Harbour Offices at the Ports of Auckland, Napier,
Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Bluff, and Invercargill.
The Board of Trade notify that, if the information con-
tained in these notices is not made use of by masters,
owners, and agents of ships, the responsibility rests with
the parties who neglect to make use of the information
gratuitously offered and abundantly circulated.

Notice to Local Authorities under "The Government Loans
to Local Bodies Act, 1886."
The Treasury,
Wellington, 12th March, 1889.
PURSUANT to section 16 of "The Government Loans to
Local Bodies Act, 1886," the Colonial Treasurer hereby
gives notice that, on Tuesday, the 2nd April, 1889, he will be
prepared to consider applications from local authorities for
loans under the Act.
Applications should be addressed to the Colonial Treasurer,
Wellington, and in the corner of the envelope the words
"Local Bodies' Loans" should be written; and every appli-
cation must be posted so as to arrive at the Treasury on or
before the 1st April, 1889.
Applications already received, but not yet dealt with, will
be considered on the date mentioned above.

Claims under Ten Shillings to be paid at nearest Post
Office.

Wellington, 12th March, 1889.
IT is hereby notified for public information that claims
upon the Government for sums under ten shillings will
be paid at the nearest post office (being a money order office)
instead of by the Treasury direct as heretofore.
Claims should be forwarded as usual to the officer autho-
rised to incur the expense, who will, after passing them,
advise the claimants where they are to apply for payment.
On receipt of a claim the officer, on satisfying himself of
its correctness, will certify and send the voucher with a
printed notice to the Postmaster, and will at the same time
advise the claimant on the form supplied for the purpose.

Alteration in the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in
force on the New Zealand Railways.
THE New Zealand Railway Commissioners, in pursuance
of the powers conferred by "The Government Railways
Act, 1887," do hereby make the following alteration in the
scale of fares, rates, and charges on the New Zealand rail-
ways:--
To come into force on and after the 25th March, 1889,-
PART III.-GOODS.
CLASSIFIED RATES.
The classified rate for Class E is hereby amended for
distances over 70 miles: For each mile over 70 miles the
charge will be 3/4d. per ton.
To come into force on and after the 15th March, 1889,-
PART IV.-LOCAL RATES.
CLASS K.-TIMBER.
White Pine for Export.
The local rates for white pine exported from Spit, Welling-
ton, Waitara, New Plymouth, Wanganui, and Foxton are
hereby extended to apply to all white pine exported from
those ports.
WESTPORT SECTION.
Contractors' plant and permanent-way material, in full-
truck loads, Westport to Ngakawau, will be charged 7s. per
ton. Consignee to take delivery in the railway-trucks, and
perform the unloading.
