Tenders for Letter-carriers' Uniforms.

General Post Office,
Wellington, 12th December, 1888.

TENDERS will be received at the General Post Office, Wellington, until noon of Saturday, the 5th January, 1889, for the manufacture within the colony, from New Zealand-made material, of Letter-carriers' uniforms, namely, tunic, trousers, riding-trousers, overcoat, and overcoat with cape.

Samples of clothing may be seen at all Chief Post Offices throughout the colony.

Tenders, quoting price for each garment, accompanied by samples of material, to be addressed to the Secretary, General Post Office, Wellington, and indorsed outside, “Tender for Letter-carriers' uniforms.”

Steam Service between New Zealand and Chatham Islands.

General Post Office,
Wellington, 6th December, 1888.

SEALED tenders will be received at the General Post Office, Wellington, until noon of Saturday, the 5th January proximo, for the performance of a steam service between New Zealand and Chatham Islands once every three months. The port of departure and arrival in New Zealand to be either Wellington or Lyttelton.

Tenderers to send in offers for one year and also for two years.

The service to be performed in accordance with a timetable to be furnished by the Postmaster-General, and to commence on a date to be fixed hereafter by the Postmaster-General.

Tenderers to state the names, tonnage, and horse-power of the vessels to be employed in the service.

The lowest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted.

Tenders to be addressed to the Hon. the Postmaster-General, and indorsed “Tender for Chatham Islands Steam Service.”

No. 3432.—ELIHU THOMSON, of Lynn, Massachusetts, United States of America, Electrical Engineer, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for an improved electric meter or motor.

No. 3433.—ELIHU THOMSON, of Lynn, Massachusetts, United States of America, Electrical Engineer, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for improvements in alternating current dynamo machines.

No. 3434.—SAMUEL SMART and WILLIAM SMART, of Sydenham, Canterbury, New Zealand, Contractors, have deposited at this office a specification of an invention for a sand- and asphalt-distributing machine.

No. 3435.—JOHN HARMS, of Norsewood, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, Carpenter, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for threshing grains, grasses, and seeds by means of a travelling drum worked by horse-power.

No. 3436.—JOHN STEWART STINNEAR, of Christchurch, New Zealand, Plumber and Gasfitter, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for a fire- and burglary-alarm, to be called “Stinnear’s Fire- and Burglary-alarm.”

And I have appointed Thursday, the 11th day of April next, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the said applications and all objections thereto; and I require all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 27th day of March next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they will be precluded from urging the same.

No. 3438.—CHARLES DIXON ARIA, trading as Smethurst and Company, of 175, Piccadilly, London, Middlesex, England, Lamp Manufacturers, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for improvements in, or applicable to, moderator and carcel lamps, to render them capable of burning mineral oils.

No. 3439.—WILLIAM HOWLEY WELLS, of Evershot, Dorset, England, Estate Agent, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for improvements in apparatus for raising cream from milk, and for skimming.

No. 3440.—DUNCAN JAMES MCGAURAN, of Hawthorn, near Melbourne, Victoria, Electrician, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for improvements relating to multiplex telegraphy.

No. 3441.—MEPHAN FERGUSON, of Carlton Foundry, Leicester Street, Carlton, Victoria, Engineer, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for an improved method of coupling pipes.

No. 3442.—EDWARD WATERS, of No. 75, Chancery Lane, Melbourne, Victoria, Patent Agent, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for improvements in the knotting apparatus employed in harvesting machines and in straw-trussers for binding the crop or produce into sheaves, trusses, or bundles (being a communication from Richard Hornsby and Sons, Limited, of Spittlegate Ironworks, Grantham, Lincoln, England, Engineers).

And I have appointed Tuesday, the 16th day of April next, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the said applications and all objections thereto; and I require all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 1st day of April next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they will be precluded from urging the same.

No. 3445.—ALFRED HOSKING, of Auckland, New Zealand, Schoolmaster, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for illustrating the seasons of the year, day and night, the phases of the moon, and eclipses, to be called “Hosking’s Patent Adjustable Season Demonstrator.”

No. 3446.—WILLIAM SCARLETT DE LISLE ROBERTS, of Marrickville, New South Wales, and JAMES SMITH MOLLISON, of Sydney, New South Wales, Civil Engineers, have deposited at this office a specification of an invention for an improved atmospheric thermo-electric generator.

No. 3447.—WILLIAM ANDREWS, of Christchurch, New Zealand, Agricultural Engineer, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for improvements in appliances for bagging chaff or bran, styled “Andrews’s Bag-support.”

No. 3448.—FREDERICK WILLIAM STILL, of Auckland, New Zealand, Gentleman, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for an improved opener for jam- and preserve-tins generally, to be called “Still’s Patent Tin-opener.”

And I have appointed Wednesday, the 17th day of April next, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the said applications and all objections thereto; and I require all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 2nd day of April next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they will be precluded from urging the same.
