REMARKS.
October.—Showery with intervals of fine weather, maxi-
mum rain recorded on 22nd ·75in.; prevailing wind from
N.W. and strong or stormy from that quarter on thirteen
days; distant thunder on 24th; hail on night of 21st. Maxi-
mum temperature in shade, 67; minimum, 39·5. Mean
temperature of dewpoint, 45·3; mean humidity, 73. Earth-
quake on 23rd, at 8.15 p.m., two shocks from S., smart; and
on 26th, shortly after midnight, sharp.
November.—Showery weather almost throughout month,
the maximum rainfall on 11th 2·65in.; strong S.E. wind on
9th, 10th, and 11th, and cold weather, and stormy from 13th
to 16th from N.W., from which quarter the wind prevailed;
thunder on 20th; hail on 1st and 23rd; an unpleasant
month. Maximum temperature in shade, 66·5; minimum,
39. Mean temperature of dewpoint, 44·9; mean humidity,

on Wednesday, the 16th January, 1889, at two o'clock in the
afternoon.

NOTICE is hereby given, in terms of "The Public
Reserves Act, 1881," that tenders will be received at
this office (marked on the outside, "Tender for Lease of Pilot
Reserve, Rangitikei River"), up to 5 p.m. of Friday, the
18th January, 1889, for leasing the Pilot Reserve, Rangitikei
River, for a term of seven years. Forms of tender may be
obtained at the Post Offices at Marton and Bull's, and at
this office, where full particulars may be obtained. A
deposit of £5 must accompany each tender.
