At Auckland, Onehunga, Spit, Wellington, Foxton, Wanganui, New Plymouth Breakwater, Waitara, Greymouth, Westport, Nelson, Nelson Port, Picton, Blenheim, Lyttelton, Christchurch, Timaru, Oamaru, Breakwater, Port Chalmers, Dunedin, Invercargill, and the Bluff, 6d. per ton will be charged in addition to the classified rates, except at private sidings at those stations, or except local rates otherwise provide.

At all other stations, when the loading or unloading is done by the owners, or when loaded by owners into sheds, owing to trucks not being available after reasonable notice is given, the classified rates only will be charged. When the loading or unloading is done by the Railway Department 6d. per ton will be charged for each operation.

At all private stores or sidings the loading or unloading shall be done by the owners.

PART IV.—LOCAL RATES.

To come into force on and after 22nd October, 1888.

HURUNUI-BLUFF SECTION.

Stone from Mount Somers quarries, consigned to ship at Timaru or Oamaru for foreign export, in consignments not under 30 tons each, will be charged as follows:—

Alterations in and Additions to the Scale of Charges in force on the New Zealand Railways.

IN accordance with section 144 of "The Public Works Act, 1882," I, Edwin Mitchelson, the Minister for Public Works, do hereby make the following alterations in and additions to the scale of charges, to come into force on and after the 5th November, 1888 :—

PART IV.—LOCAL RATES.

NAPIER, WANGANUI, WELLINGTON, AND HURUNUI-BLUFF SECTIONS.

Timber other than white pine for export to places outside the Colony of New Zealand, consigned direct to the ship, will be charged as follows at per 100 superficial feet:—
From 40 to 50 miles .. .. 1s. 8d.
Over 50 miles and not over 60 miles .. 1s. 9d.
" 60 " " 70 " .. 1s.10d.
" 70 " " 80 " .. 1s.11d.
" 80 " " 90 " .. 2s. 1d.

On the Wellington Section 2d. per 100 superficial feet additional will be charged for the distances named.

PICOTON SECTION.

The following regulations are hereby cancelled :—

Goods of Classes A, B, C, D, booked through between Blenheim or other stations on the Blenheim-Picton Railway and the Ports of Wellington or Nelson, consigned by steamship companies making suitable arrangements with the Government for through booking, will be charged 15s. per ton, weight or measurement, according to ships' bill of lading.

Native coals, ex ship, Picton to Blenheim, will be charged 4s. 6d. per ton, including all charges; owners to load and unload.

The following regulation is hereby made :—

Class P. Native coal, ex ship, Picton to Blenheim, will be charged 5s. per ton, including all charges; owners to load and unload.

PART V.—GOODS CLASSIFICATION.

Doors, glass, packed. Owner's risk .. .. Class C.
Sashes, window, glazed, packed. Owner's risk .. " C.

Reward of £10,000 offered for the Discovery of New Gold fields.—Amended Conditions.

Mines Department,
Wellington, 30th April, 1888.

REWARDS of £10,000 are offered for the discovery of new goldfields, upon the amended conditions set forth hereunder.

AMENDED CONDITIONS.

  1. The maximum sum offered as a reward for any proved discovery of a new goldfield in accordance with these conditions is £5,000 for the North Island, and £5,000 for the Middle Island.

  2. The newly-discovered goldfield must be situated not less than forty miles from any existing goldfield or any existing workings.

  3. No reward shall be payable until 50,000 ounces of gold have been produced from the newly-discovered goldfield within three years from the date of its being registered.

  4. Any person discovering new gold-workings, and being desirous of obtaining the reward, shall immediately forward a written report of such discovery, with full particulars, to the Warden or Resident Magistrate of the district within which such discovery shall be situated, and the Warden or Resident Magistrate shall forthwith register the report as an application for reward.

  5. No prospecting will be allowed upon Native land without a prospecting license authorising the person therein
