Rakaha Water-races, County of Selwyn.

A PROCLAMATION.
IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities
vested in me by the two hundred and sixty-seventh sec-
tion of "The Counties Act, 1886," and at the request of the
Selwyn County Council, I, William Francis Drummond
Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do
hereby proclaim and declare the lands described in the
Schedule hereto to be water-races as defined by the two
hundred and sixty-sixth section of the said Act, to be known
by the name of the Rakaha Water-races; and, further, that
the River Rakaha shall be a stream which may be taken for
the purpose of supplying the said water-races.
SCHEDULE.
WATER-RACES IN ELLESMERE WATER-RACE DISTRICT.
Rakaha Main Race.
ALL that area, 100 links in width, situate in the Selwyn
Survey District, County of Selwyn, commencing at the
Rakaha River, at the south-eastern corner of Section No.
34171, and proceeding easterly across a road and through
Reserve No. 2381, and again across a road intersecting the
same to the western boundary of Section No. 32283.
Also all that area, 25 links in width, situate in the
Selwyn Survey District, County of Selwyn, commencing at
the western boundary-line of Section No. 32283 aforesaid,
and proceeding easterly through that section and Sections
Nos. 25758 and 26863, Crown land, across a road and through
Sections Nos. 25757, 33424, and 34039, across a road and
through Crown land, Section No. 33588, again through Crown
land, Section No. 34020, Crown land, and across roads inter-
secting the same to the western boundary-line of Section
No. 11203, at the south-eastern corner of Section No.
29858.
McVinnie's Branch Race.
All that area, 25 links in width, situate in the Survey
Districts of Selwyn, Leeston, and Southbridge, County of
Selwyn, commencing at a point on the Rakaha Main Race,
hereinbefore described, about 2200 links east of the north-
eastern boundary-line of Section No. 34020, and proceeding
generally easterly through Crown land, across a road and
through Sections Nos. 14333, 33161, 33189, and 33468, across
a road and through Sections Nos. 33589 and 25632, across
a road and through Sections Nos. 34636, 34583, and 25366,
across a road and through Sections Nos. 35726, 34387,
17904, and 35730, across a road and through Sections Nos.
26931, 35729, 34487, 34201, 34582, and 17819, across a road
and through Sections Nos. 17820, 23388, and 17820 afores-
said, across a road and through Sections Nos. 17821 and
10579, along and across a road and through Sections Nos.
17820 aforesaid and 10922, along and across a road front-
ing Section No. 9190, and through Reserve No. 1216 and
Section No. 6731, across a road and through Reserve No.
1630 and Section No. 6730, across a road and through Sec-
tion No. 6729 to the western boundary of Reserve No. 731.
Carr's Branch Race.
All that area, 25 links in width, situate in the Survey
Districts of Selwyn and Leeston, County of Selwyn, com-
mencing at or near the north-western corner of Section No.
34487, at McVinnie's Branch Race, hereinbefore described,
and proceeding generally easterly through that Section and
Section No. 34250, across a road and through Sections Nos.
35690, 32305, 23388, and 17820 to McVinnie's Branch Race
aforesaid, at or near the north-eastern corner of the last-
mentioned section.
Hurst's Branch Race.
All that area, 25 links in width, situate in the Survey
Districts of Selwyn, Hurst, and Southbridge, County of
Selwyn, commencing at the western boundary-line of Section
No. 11203, at the Rakaha Main Race, hereinbefore described,
and proceeding generally south-easterly through Sections
Nos. 29858, 11203, and 25367, across a road and through
Sections Nos. 6987 and 8074, across a road and through Sec-
tion No. 12345, across a road and through Sections Nos.
12346, 7951, 7358, 7360, 7352, and 7351, across a road and
through Sections Nos. 7765 and 7298, across a road and
through Section No. 6930, along and across a road and
through Section No. 4982, across the road forming the north-
eastern boundary of the said Section No. 4982, and along
the north-eastern side of that road to the northern boundary
of the Town District of Southbridge.
Baxter's Branch Race.
All that area, 25 links in width, situate in the Survey
Districts of Hurstt and Southbridge, County of Selwyn, com-
mencing at or near the north-western corner of Section No.
12346, at Hurst's Branch Race, hereinbefore described, and
proceeding generally south-easterly through Sections Nos.
17820, 12346, 7951, 12366, 7360, 9003, 10922, 9190, 9003
aforesaid, and 6731, across a road and through Section No.
6732, across and along a road to the northern boundary of
Section No. 6733.
Stony Gully Branch Race.
All that area, 25 links in width, situate in the Survey
Districts of Selwyn, Hurstt, and Southbridge, County of
Selwyn, commencing at the western boundary-line of Sec-
tion No. 11203, at Rakaha Main Race, hereinbefore described,
and proceeding generally south-easterly through the said
Section No. 11203, Crown land on the south-western side of
that section, across a road and through Section No. 6987,
across a road and through Sections Nos. 35727, 34176, and
34177, across a road and through Crown lands and Sections
Nos. 34175, 11014, 11013, and 6978, across a road and
through Sections Nos. 12911 and 4764, across a road and
through Sections Nos. 4794, 8523, 7946, and 8953, across a
road and through Sections Nos. 7612, 7928, and 8951, across
a road and through Section No. 8952 to its southernmost
corner; thence along the western side of Cryer's Road
between Sections Nos. 7089 and 8107, and along the western
side of that road continued to Stony Gully.
Carroll's Branch Race.
All that area, 25 links in width, situate in the Survey Dis-
tricts of Hurstt and Southbridge, County of Selwyn, com-
mencing at Stony Gully Branch Race, hereinbefore described,
in Crown lands lying between Sections Nos. 20300 and 34175,
and proceeding generally south-easterly through the said
Crown lands and along a road fronting Section No. 34175
to the north-western corner of Section No. 14567; thence
through the last-mentioned section and Section No.
14736, across a road and through Sections Nos. 12902, 15255,
21065, 24561, 21065 aforesaid, and 10761, across a road and
through Sections Nos. 9776, 9745, 9109, 8953, 10840, and
10707, and into Reserve No. 808 for a distance of about 250
links.
Easbury Branch Race.
All that area, 25 links in width, situate in the Hurstt
Survey District, County of Selwyn, commencing at Stony
Gully Branch Race, hereinbefore described, in Section No.
34177, and proceeding southerly through that section and
Sections Nos. 31576, 10423, 12272, and 10915, across a road
and through Sections Nos. 7786, 14528, 14527, and 14526 to
the northernmost corner of Section No. 11312.

Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable
Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-

Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral
of the same; and issued under the Seal of the
said Colony, at the Government House, at Wel-
lington, this sixteenth day of October, in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and eighty-eight.

"The Counties Act, 1886," and at the request of the Selwyn
County Council, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim
and declare the lands described in the Schedule hereto to be
extensions of water-races constituted under the said Act, and
known by the name of the Hororata, Haldon, and Ellesmere
Water-races; and, further, that the Hororata River, in the
County of Selwyn, shall be a stream which may be taken for
the purpose of supplying the said water-races.

WATER-RACE EXTENSIONS IN THE HORORATA WATER-RACE
DISTRICT.
Reid and Buchanan's Branch Race.
ALL that area, 25 links in width, situate in the Survey Dis-
tricts of Hall and Selwyn, County of Selwyn, commencing
at Centre Race Extension, as described in the New Zealand
Gazette No. 63, 9th December, 1886, about 700 links north-
east of the continuation of the road running between Sec-
tions Nos. 32290 and 32291, and proceeding south-westerly
to the said road; thence along the north-east side of the
