tobacco factory. The right-hand upper space is occupied by
the representation of a galley-ship in full sail, and the right-
hand lower space contains a representation of the tobacco
plant growing. On either side of the shield are the words
“ Marca de Fabrica.” Above, and resting upon the shield, is
the representation of a crown. Above the crown is a curved
ribband with twining ends which droop on either side of the
shield, and bearing upon it the words “ Compania General
de Tabacos.” Below the shield is a ribband with scrolled
ends, bearing upon it the words “ De Filipinas.” Between
the two lower corner ornamentations is the word “ Barce-
lona.”
Part 2 consists of a lined square, containing within it the
representation of a shield or escutcheon, the outline of which
is in some places irregular. The shield bears upon it the
following words : “ Manila Compañia General De Tabacos De
Filipinas Fabricas Flor De La Isabela La Montañesa Meisic
Malabon—Princesa Cavite,” and is represented as resting
upon its base on the ground, while tobacco plants and palm
trees support it on either side. Above the shield are branches
of tobacco leaves, between which is a cushion, having within
it an oval divided in the centre. The whole is surmounted
by the representation of an Imperial crown. The mark is
printed in black on a toned-white ground, but claim is made
to use the same in any other colours or combination of
colours.
Description of Trade Mark No. 2.
Consists of an oblong formed by broken fanciful lines
which twine in and out of each other. In the centre of the
oblong is a band of circular form, the ends of which overlap
at the bottom and end in scroll-work. The band bears upon
it the words “ Compania General De Tabacos De Filipinas.”
At the top of the space formed inside the band is the repre-
sentation of a crown, supported on the left- and right-hand
sides by two shields placed at an angle to one another, and
bearing upon them coats-of-arms. Below the shields is the
word “ Barcelona.” Outside and around the band are repre-
sented leaves of the tobacco plant and palm tree, together
with agricultural implements. Near the top of the oblong is
a fanciful tablet connected with the twining lines forming
the border, and bearing upon it the words “ La Flor.” A
similar tablet in the lower portion of the oblong bears upon
it the words “ De La Isabela.” The oblong has a shaded
ground-work. The mark is printed in black on a toned-
white ground, but claim is made to use the same in any
other colours or combination of colours.

has applied, on behalf of JOHN BAZLEY WHITE AND BROTHERS,
LIMITED, of 2, Lime Street Square, London, England, Cement
Manufacturers and Merchants, and Brick Makers and Brick
Merchants, to register, under “ The Trade Marks Act, 1866,”
the trade mark of which the following is a description :—
Description of Trade Mark.
A lined circle having within it an inner circle. In the
upper portion of the space formed between the two circles
are the words, letters, abbreviations, and cypher, “ J. B. White
& Brothers,” and in the lower portion the word “ London.”
Between the two sets of printing on either side is the repre-
sentation of a star. Within the inner circle is the firm’s
fanciful monogram, bearing across it the word “ Portland ;”
the whole being upon a groundwork of lace. The mark is
printed in black on a toned-white ground, but the right is
claimed to use the same in any other colours or combination
of colours. Claim is made to vary the word “ Portland ”
appearing on the mark, and to substitute other terms
descriptive of the particular kind of cement to which the
mark is applied when used for cement, such, for instance, as
“ Parian,” “ Roman,” “ Keene’s,” &c., &c. Claim is also
made to omit the word “ Portland ” when the mark is used
on goods other than cement.
Nature of the Articles to which it is intended such Trade
Mark shall apply.
Manufactures from mineral and other substances for
building or decoration, including cements of all kinds.

Consists of a lined oblong label having on the outside a
double-lined key border. In the centre, extending across
the label, is the representation in the foreground of the
exterior of the buildings of a factory, with a background of
landscape, enclosed between two sets of four horizontal lines
running across the label, having a fanciful ornamentation in
the four corners. Immediately above the upper series of
lines, from each side of the oblong, runs a band crossing at
