Enclosed within the circle is the representation of an eagle, with raised wings, standing on a crest bar, surrounded on either side by a thistle branch in full bloom, the two branches being bound together at the bottom with a ribband, and having over the top a curved ribband, bearing the words “Moveo et proficior.” Across the top of the oblong are printed the word, letters, abbreviations, and cypher, “W. & J. Knox’s.” Under the lower series of lines above referred to are the words “Linen Thread.” Below this, and divided therefrom by a thin line, having a diamond in the centre, are the words “For Sewing Machines.” The words “Linen Thread For Sewing Machines” being words common to the trade, claim is made to vary the same, and to substitute other terms descriptive of the application of the goods to which the mark is applied. Claim is also made to omit the words “Linen Thread For Sewing Machines,” when the mark is used in connection with other goods to which the mark is applied, namely, “Fishing-nets,” and to substitute the names of such goods in the place thereof. The label is printed in black on a white ground, but the right is claimed to use any other colours or combination of colours.
