Description of Land: These sections form part of the
Puketoi Block, and are situated between the Woodville-
Tiraumea and the Pahiatua-Puketoi Special-settlement
Blocks, and include the area from the Tiraumea River to
the dividing ridge between that river and the Makuri. The
best access is by the Taratia dray-road, which connects the
western part of this block with the Pahiatua settlements,
five miles away. There is a ford at the eastern end of the
road, across the Tiraumea, which is easily passable, except
in the wet season. From this point two important road-lines
have been laid off, viz., the Pahiatua-Aohonga and the
Makuri lines, which serve as frontages to the sections. The
northern portion of the block fronts on the Woodville-
Aohanga road-line, which is an extension of the Woodville-
Tiraumea road-system. Many of the sections in the Tirau-
mea and Makuri Valleys comprise flat and undulating lands.
The back country consists principally of high hills, and the
formation is mainly papa and limestone; the soil being
generally of very good quality. The forest comprises
principally tawa, rimu, and rata, the undergrowth being

generally dense. Judging by the adjacent holdings, the
block is very suitable for pastoral purposes. The situation
is equally well adapted for the Wellington, Napier, and
West Coast markets.

from 1,000ft. to 2,000ft. at one point on the back boundary.
The formation is sandstone and papa. The soil on the flats

well watered. The forest consists of rimu, rata, hinau,
tawhero, and tawa, in places, with some patches of light
bush, including rewarewa and makomako. Although only
distant from Masterton about twelve miles, the access pro-
vided and shown on the plan is by Mount Bruce road-line,
which connects with the Forty-mile Bush road three miles
north of Hastwell Village.

Ihuraua Block, fronting on Barton's Wangaeheu road-line,
Dreyer's rock-road extension, and the Mangamahoe road-
line, north of Perry's clearing. The country is hilly, with
some flats on Barton's line; the soil fair to good, resting on
papa and sandstone formation, and is covered throughout
with mixed forest, comprising rimu, rata, tawa, tawhero,
matai, hinau, maire, &c., and the usual undergrowth. The
access is by Dreyer's rock-road, which is now being extended
as a horse-road to meet Barton's line, and by the Mangamahoe
surveyed line, both of which connect with the Wellington-
Eketahuna Railway, and coach-road near Mauriceville and
Mangamahoe.
