Description of Land: All very rough and inferior, although
mostly clear; fairly well watered.
Access is obtained to this block by a dray-road from Onga-
onga, distance about twelve miles, and Waipawa eighteen
miles.

this twenty-eighth day of August, one thousand
eight hundred and eighty-eight.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by the third section of "The Land
Act Amendment Act, 1887" (hereinafter termed "the said
Act"), I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor
of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of
the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is
provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated
in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection,
after the lapse of a period of ninety days from the date of
the first public notification hereof, in the manner and upon
the conditions mentioned in the said Act, and at the price
per acre respectively set opposite such land in the said
Schedule.

Description of Land: This land is situated on the Bluff
Road-line, Otamakapua Block, and comprises generally hilly
forest land of good quality.

Description of Land: This section is situated between
Hastwell's Clearing, the Mangaone Settlements, and Eke-
tahuna, eastward of the Masterton-Woodville Main Road;
the Wiwaka section of the Masterton-Woodville Railway
intersects the block, and is now under construction; the line
having already been opened to Mangamahoe, which is about
three miles from the block. The country comprises un-
dulating and rough hills; the bush consists generally of rata,
rimu, tawa, hinau, tawhero, &c., and the usual variety of
undergrowth; the soil varies from fair to good, the formation
being sandstone, papa, &c. As a rule the section is fairly
well watered.

Description of Land: These sections are situated on the
confiscated lands at the head of the Ngutara Valley, inland
of the Waitotara and Momahaki Settlements, and comprise
long leading spurs, with steep faces in parts; the altitude of
the hills being from 300ft. to 1,200ft. above the sea; the in-
tervening valleys are flat but narrow, and only from 100ft.
to 200ft. above sea-level, affording numerous and suitable
homestead-sites. At the heads of the Mangawhia and
Waikare Valleys the country is undulating. The general
character of the formation is sandstone and papa. The soil
varies from fair to good quality on the slopes, that in the
valleys being principally alluvial drift of a superior quality.
The forest on the ridges and spurs is mainly birch; that on
the slopes includes tawa, hinau, maire, manuka, rangiora,
