Rural Lands in the Hawke's Bay Land District open for
Sale or Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by the third section of “The Land
Act Amendment Act, 1887” (hereinafter termed “the said
Act”), I, James Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice, in the
name and on behalf of His Excellency the Governor of
the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of
the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is
provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated
in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection,
after the lapse of a period of forty-five days from the date of
the first public notification hereof, in the manner and upon
the conditions mentioned in the said Act, and at the price
per acre respectively set opposite such land in the said
Schedule.

Description of Land: All well-watered undulating or hilly
country, of a good but light quality of soil. The timber is
very mixed, but generally light, with a sprinkling of totara

Description of Land: Fair land, undulating, and well
watered, covered with mixed bush and manuka, contains a
little totara.

The land above described partly bounds upon the formed
road from Cape Turnagain (shipping port) to Danevirke, and
is situated about fourteen miles from the former. Access
can also be obtained from Akitio along a partly-formed road,
where goods can also be landed from steamer. The land as
