A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS the lands mentioned in the Schedule hereto
are required to be taken under "The Public Works
Act, 1882," and its amendments, for a certain work, to wit,
the construction of a road in Bruce County, Provincial Dis-
trict of Otago:
And whereas the Bruce County Council has laid before
the Governor the memorial, accompanied by a map, and also
the statutory declaration, required by the said Act and the
amendments thereof:
Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and
pursuance of the powers and authorities in me vested by
"The Public Works Act, 1882," and of every other power
and authority in anywise enabling me in that behalf, do
hereby proclaim and declare that, from and after the date
of the publication hereof in the New Zealand Gazette, the
lands mentioned in the Schedule hereto are hereby taken for
the purposes of the construction of the said road.

drawn from the Perpetual-leasing System and opened as
Village-settlement Lots.

A PROCLAMATION.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by the sixth section of "The Land
Act, 1885," I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Go-
vernor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby declare
that, from and after the day of the date hereof, the
Proclamation of the seventh day of July, one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-six, so far as it relates to the sections
enumerated in the Schedule hereto, shall be and the same
is hereby revoked; and do proclaim and declare that the
said sections are hereby withdrawn from the village-home-
stead special-settlement system.
And, in pursuance of the provisions of the one hundred
and sixty-sixth section of the said Act, I do hereby set apart
the said sections as a village settlement, upon the terms and
conditions set forth in an Order in Council to be made under
the one hundred and sixty-sixth section of the said Act.

Vesting Control of certain Roads.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by section twenty of "The Public Works
Acts Amendment Act, 1887," it is enacted, inter alia,
that the Council of any county may, by special order, declare
that all or any part of any district road shall, from and after
a date to be fixed therein, be under the exclusive control of
such local authority within the county as shall be mentioned
in such special order, and may, by the same special order,
direct that the cost of constructing and maintaining any
such road or part of a road shall be borne either by the
local authority to which the exclusive control thereof is
given, or that a proportion of such cost, to be fixed in and by
such special order, shall be borne by any other local
authorities; and that wherever the operation of "The
Counties Act, 1876," or of any Act repealing or amending
the same, is suspended, the Governor shall have and may
exercise all the functions vested in a County Council under
this section:
And whereas by an Order in Council dated the fourteenth
day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-
six, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the
fifteenth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-six, the Auckland Great South Road and the Auckland
to Onehunga Road were declared to be district roads:
And whereas portions of the said roads are situated in the
County of Eden, in which county the operation of "The
Counties Act, 1876," is suspended, and it is desirable that
the said roads should be placed under the exclusive control
of such of the local authorities within the said county as are
mentioned in the Schedule hereto:
Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and
pursuance of the powers vested in me in this behalf, do
hereby order and declare that the portions of the Auckland
Great South Road and the Auckland to Onehunga Road,
described in the Schedule hereto, shall, from and after the
day of the date hereof, be under the exclusive control of the
local authorities whose names are respectively placed against
the descriptions of such portions of roads in the said
Schedule; and I do hereby further direct that the cost of
maintaining such portions of the said roads shall be borne
by the local authorities hereby directed to have exclusive
control of the same respectively.
