GULF OF ST. VINCENT, PORT ADELAIDE.—SEMAPHORE ANCHORAGE.—REMOVAL OF HULK.

NOTICE is hereby given that on the 1st September next the hulk “Fitzjames” (from which a fixed red light is exhibited) will be removed to a position N. ¾ W., seven-tenths of a mile from the outer end of the Semaphore Jetty, and S.W. by W. ¾ W., three-tenths of a mile from the Largs Jetty. The hulk in one with the smelting-works chimney will lead up to the mooring-buoy.

Additions to the Scale of Charges in force on the New Zealand Railways.

IN accordance with section 144 of “The Public Works Act, 1882,” I, Edwin Mitchelson, the Minister for Public Works, do hereby make the following additions to the scale of charges, to come into force from and after the 16th day of July, 1888:—

Reward of £10,000 offered for the Discovery of New Gold fields.—Amended Conditions.

REWARDS of £10,000 are offered for the discovery of new goldfields, upon the amended conditions set forth hereunder.

AMENDED CONDITIONS.

  1. The maximum sum offered as a reward for any proved discovery of a new goldfield in accordance with these conditions is £5,000 for the North Island, and £5,000 for the Middle Island.

  2. The newly-discovered goldfield must be situated not less than forty miles from any existing goldfield or any existing workings.

  3. No reward shall be payable until 50,000 ounces of gold have been produced from the newly-discovered goldfield within three years from the date of its being registered.

  4. Any person discovering new gold-workings, and being desirous of obtaining the reward, shall immediately forward a written report of such discovery, with full particulars, to the Warden or Resident Magistrate of the district within which such discovery shall be situated, and the Warden or Resident Magistrate shall forthwith register the report as an application for reward.

  5. No prospecting will be allowed upon Native land without a prospecting license authorising the person therein named, with the consent of the owner of the land, to prospect, in accordance with the provisions of sections one hundred and thirty-five to one hundred and thirty-seven of “The Mining Act, 1886,” inclusive.

No reward shall be paid for any discovery that may be made upon Native land without the consent of the Native owners and the approval of the Minister of Mines.

Progress-payments for Exported Fish.

Department of Trade and Customs,
Wellington, 24th September, 1886.

WITH reference to the notification in the New Zealand Gazette of the 12th November, 1885, respecting the payment of bonuses to persons who prepare canned and cured fish for export under regulations published on the same date, it is hereby notified that progress-payments on account of such bonuses, claimed in accordance with those regulations, will now be made by this department. Claims to be for quantities not less than one ton net weight, and to be sent through the Collector of Customs at the port from which the fish was exported.

Notice of Hearing of Application for a Patent.

PATENT for an invention for an improved system of distributing electricity, to be called “The Zipernowski-Deri System of distributing Electricity” (being a communication from abroad, by Carl Zipernowski and Max Deri, both of Buda-Pesth, in Hungary).

CHARLES FLESCH, of Collins Street, Melbourne, Victoria, Managing Agent, has deposited at this office a specification of the said invention; and I have appointed Tuesday, the 18th day of December next, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the said application and all objections thereto; and I require all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 3rd day of December next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections to the said application, otherwise they will be precluded from urging the same.

No. 3077.—GEORGE WILLIAMS, of Auckland, New Zealand, Photographer, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for Williams’s fence self-acting trap, and rapid method of destroying rabbits by means of chemical fumes.

No. 3078.—JAMES COVENTRY, of Wellington, New Zealand, Tinsmith, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for Coventry’s disinfectant chamber or air-filter, also applicable to liquids.

No. 3079.—JAMES SHARON McCOY, of 395, Jefferson Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, United States of America, Gentleman, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for pneumatic apparatus for working percussive tools, applicable also as a motor engine.

No. 3080.—LOFTUS PERKINS, of 6, Seaford Street, Gray’s Inn Road, Middlesex, England, Engineer, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for improvements in refrigerating and freezing apparatus.

And I have appointed Thursday, the 15th day of November next, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the said applications and all objections thereto; and I require all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 31st day of October next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they will be precluded from urging the same.
