ditions, as far as the same are applicable to those
contained in the two last subsections.

The total tonnage upon which the Treasurer may grant
bonuses as aforesaid under this Act shall not exceed 6,000
tons. -
Every person intending to apply for the grant of a
bonus shall register a special trade-mark under the laws for
the time being in force in New Zealand providing for the
registration of trade-marks, such trade-mark to be used for
all cured and canned fish to be prepared for export by such
person, and shall, within six years after the passing of this
Act, give notice to the Treasurer of his intention to export
canned and cured fish with a view to applying for a bonus,
and shall append to such notice a copy of such trade-mark;
and all cases, barrels, or cans containing fish cured and
canned for export by any such person shall, before exporta-
tion, be marked with the trade-mark so registered by him,
and no part of any such bonus shall be payable except in
respect of cases, barrels, or cans so marked.
Progress-payments for Exported Fish.

WITH reference to the notification in the New Zealand
Gazette of the 12th November, 1885, respecting the
payment of bonuses to persons who prepare canned and
cured fish for export under regulations published on the
same date, it is hereby notified that progress-payments on
account of such bonuses, claimed in accordance with those
regulations, will now be made by this department. Claims
to be for quantities not less than one ton net weight, and to
be sent through the Collector of Customs at the port from
which the fish was exported.

Coachbuilder, has deposited at this office a specifica-
tion of an invention for improvement in the means of access
to hind seats of double buggies, to be called “Sinclair’s
Patent Improved Family Buggy.”
No. 3064.—ALBERT BERGER, of Auckland, New Zealand,
Watchmaker, has deposited at this office a specification of
an invention for putting out the flame of candles, to be
called “Berger’s Automatic Candle-extinguisher.”
No. 3065.—JOHN YOUNG, of Insurance Buildings, Queen
Street, Auckland, New Zealand, Mining Agent, has deposited
at this office a specification of an invention for Young’s
process for extracting metals from their ores.
No. 3066.—SEYMOUR REGINALD BOLTON, of Christchurch,
New Zealand, has deposited at this office a specification of
an invention for economizing or saving fuel, to be called
“The Reginald Patent Self-acting Cinder-sifter and Fuel-
economizer.”
No. 3067.—JOSEPH RICHARDS, of Christchurch, Canterbury,
New Zealand, Blacksmith, has deposited at this office a
specification of an invention for a metallic-tube penholder,
to be called “The Writers’ Friend.”
No. 3068.—WILLIAM TAYLOR, of Ohoka, Canterbury, New
Zealand, Engineer, has deposited at this office a specification
of an invention for a three-horse swingle-tree and fittings for
swingle-trees.
And I have appointed Thursday, the 8th day of November
next, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said applications and all objections thereto; and I require all
persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any such
Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 24th day of October
next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections
to any of the said applications, otherwise they will be pre-
cluded from urging the same.

an invention for improving the draught in chimneys and
other flues and passages, also for ventilating rooms and other
spaces.
No. 3072.—HENRY WAITE, of High Street, Auckland, New
Zealand, Tinsmith, has deposited at this office a specification
of an invention for Waite’s patent fire-lighter.
No. 3073.—HENRY DENT GARDINER, of Purau, Canterbury,
New Zealand, Stockowner, has deposited at this office a
specification of an invention for a combination of beaters
and grooved plates for use in machines for threshing clover.
No. 3074.—JOHN FRANCIS KITTO, of Ettrick, Otago, New
Zealand, Settler, has deposited at this office a specification
of an invention for an apparatus for applying the power of
the currents of rivers to raising water for the purposes of
gold-mining or irrigation, or to dredging the beds of rivers by
means of the same power.
And I have appointed Tuesday, the 13th day of November
next, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said applications and all objections thereto; and I require
all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any
such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 29th day of

Application for Rehearing of Claims granted.
NATIVE LAND COURT, NEW ZEALAND :
DISTRICT OF WANGANUI.
IN the matter of a decision of the Court given during a
sitting announced to be opened at Wanganui, in the
said district, on the 21st day of February last, upon the
hearing of claims to succeed to the interest of Peehimana te
Paku in land situate in the said district, and called Rua-
nui; and in the matter of applications made in writing,
within three months after such decision was given, by Eruera
Whakaahu, Ngaraihi Rewiti, and other Natives thinking
themselves aggrieved thereby, for a rehearing upon the afore-
said claims :
I, John Edwin Macdonald, Chief Judge of the said Court,
in exercise of the authority in that behalf vested in me, do
hereby order that a rehearing upon such claims be had on
the 10th day of August, 1888, at a sitting of the Court to be
then held at Wanganui, in the said district.
