Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies, is pub-
lished for general information.

SIR,—I have the honour to transmit to you, for communi-
cation to your Government, a copy of a letter from the
Secretary to the Gilchrist Educational Trust, announcing
the intention of the Trustees to withdraw the annual scholar-
ship of £100 per annum offered to Australia, including
Tasmania, and the biennial scholarship of £100 per annum
hitherto offered to New Zealand.

The GILCHRIST EDUCATIONAL TRUST to the SECRETARY of
STATE for the COLONIES.

SIR,—I have the honour to inform you that the Gilchrist
Trustees, having taken into consideration the numerous
replies which they have received from the colonies respecting
their scholarships, have decided, so far as concern the annual
scholarship of £100 per annum hitherto offered to Australia,
including Tasmania, and the biennial scholarship of £100
per annum hitherto offered to New Zealand, to withdraw the
same. As regards New Zealand, an award having been made
this year, the scholarship will not again be offered; and as
regards Australia and Tasmania, the withdrawal will take
effect after the award which may be made on the usual
examination to be held in those colonies in January next,
1888. After that occasion that scholarship also will not
again be offered.
I have to request that you will be so good as to have this
information conveyed to the educational authorities through-
out these colonies.

THE following special order, made by the Cook County
Council, is published in accordance with "The Counties
Act, 1886."

SPECIAL ORDER made by the Cook County Council, 1st
September, 1887.
RESOLVED, That this Council hereby declares the Waimata
Road District, as constituted on the 11th September, 1884,
to be abolished; and, further, that three new road districts
be constituted, to be known as—(1) the Whatuapoko Road
District, (2) the Kaiti Road District, (3) the Waimata Road
District, as described in the schedules certified to by S.
Percy Smith, Assistant Surveyor-General.

I hereby certify that the foregoing special order has been
made by the Cook County Council in accordance with law,
and that all the provisions of "The Road Boards Act, 1882," and "The Counties Act, 1886," have been fully complied

SCHEDULES ABOVE REFERRED TO.
The Whatuapoko Road District.
All that area in the Provincial District of Auckland, com-
mencing at the northernmost angle of the Whatuapoko
No. 5 Block, bounded towards the North-east by the north-
eastern and part of the eastern boundaries of the Whatuau-
poko No. 5 Block, the north-eastern boundaries of the
Whatuapoko Nos. 3 and 4 Blocks and part of the north-
western and the north-eastern boundaries of the Whatuapoko
No. 6 Block to the Waimata River; towards the South-east
by the Waimata River to the Borough of Gisborne; towards
the South and West by the Borough of Gisborne aforesaid
and the Taruheru River to the south-eastern boundary of the
Whatuapoko No. 1 Block; and towards the North-west
generally by the south-eastern and eastern boundary-lines of
the latter block to the commencing point.
The Kaiti Road District.
All that area in the Provincial District of Auckland, com-
mencing at the confluence of the Kopakiraho Stream with
the Waimata River, bounded towards the North generally
by the northern boundary of the Kaiti Block No. 845 to the
sea; towards the East and South by high-water mark of the
sea to the southern boundary of the Borough of Gisborne,
as proclaimed in Gazette of the 14th May, 1877, page 527;
and towards the West generally by part of the southern,
eastern, and part of the northern boundaries of the Borough
of Gisborne aforesaid to the Waimata River, and by that
river to the commencing point.

All that area in the Provincial District of Auckland, com-
mencing at the north-western angle of the Waimata North
