Also a strip of land extending up the Matakitaki River, 1 mile in width on either side of the river, to the confluence of the Glenroy River, and onward to the source of the said Matakitaki River, about 2 miles on either side. (5.) Also a strip of land up the Glenroy River to its sources, 1 mile to ½ mile in width, and up the Warbeck River 1½ miles in width. (6.) Also a strip of land, about 1½ miles in width, on either side of the Maruia River and its tributaries, from its confluence with the Buller River to Walker’s Station. (7.) Also a belt of country, about 11 miles wide, on the western slope of the range to the east of the Inangahua and Grey Rivers, from near Cronadon to the Arnold River. (8.) Also a strip of land, about 4 miles in width, extending from the eastern side of the Haupiri Lake to the source of Molloy’s Creek. (9.) Also a strip of land, of an average width of 3 miles, on the road from the Buller River, via Charleston and Brighton, to the Omonahu or Bullock Creek at Perpendicular Point. (10.) Also the western watershed of the Black Ball and Hawera Range from the Punakaihi River to the Ten-mile Creek.
All that land in the Provincial District of Westland comprised within the following limits, namely :-
- Between Nelson District and the Teremakau River.—Comprising the Greenstone, Maori Gully, Stillwater, Saltwater, New River, Teremakau workings, &c. Commencing at Teremakau River, following Piranui Creek to Hohanui Range; thence following top of that range, via Mount French and watershed between the Greenstone, New River, Stillwater, and all their tributaries on the west, and Big Hohanui River, Lake Brunner, Arnold River and Arnold Creek on the east of Coal Reserve No. 274; thence along its boundary and the western watershed of Stillwater Creek to Mount Riley; thence along the watershed to Rata-tree Peak and Kakawau; thence following the watersheds of Saltwater, Nelson, and Sawyer’s Creeks to Korora Lagoon, Grey River, the sea-coast, and Teremakau River to the starting-point.
Outside of this Block.—The head of Hohanui Race, tapping the Big Hohanui River, and the head of Peacock’s Race and Burns Race, tapping the Arnold Creek, ½ chain on each side of these races.

Between Teremakau and Arahura Rivers.—Comprising Waimea, Kapitea, Kumara workings, &c. Commencing at Arahura River, following Railway Reserve, thence Hatter’s Gully; thence ND line; thence Fox’s Creek to its head; thence across Christchurch Road, along watershed between Blaks and Okuku Creeks to their junction; thence along Blaks Creek and Teremakau River, Ocean Beach, and by the sea and Arahura River to the starting-point: save and excepting the Borough of Kumara.

Comprising 5 chains on each side of the Taipo River and the Seven-mile Creek. Commencing at junction of Rocky Creek and Taipo River, and extending to the head of the Seven-mile Creek. For the protection of known alluvial ground.

Between Arahura and Hokitika Rivers.—Comprising Kanieri, Hauhau, Bluespur, Humphrey’s Gully workings, &c. Commencing at Hokitika River, following the Kanieri to Hauhau Road, and along Big Paddock Track, via Fraser’s Machine Site, to the watershed north of Hauhau Creek; along said watershed and the old horse-track to near Eight-mile Post, Arahura River; thence up Arahura River to a point one mile east of junction of German Gully Creek and Arahura River; thence due south to the watershed between Caledonian Creek and Arahura River, along said watershed to the head of the north branch of the Kanieri River; thence due south-west to the watershed of Cox’s and Butcher’s Creeks, along said watershed via Conical Hill, Mount Graham; thence by the watershed between the Hokitika River and Kanieri River to the junction of Stoney Creek and Kanieri River, and along Kanieri and Hokitika Rivers to the starting-point.

Between the Arahura River and Hokitika Borough Boundary, and between the Beach and the Railway Reserve.

Between Hokitika and Mikonui Rivers.—Commencing at sea-beach, following the northern boundary of the Harbour Board Endowment Reserve No. 146 to the Mahinapua Lake; thence along the eastern and northern banks of said lake, and along Mahinapua Creek to junction with Limestone Creek; thence along Limestone Creek to the Hokitika River watershed, and by said watershed, HI and HO lines, Mount Rivulet, the Hokitika River, the Hokitika Borough boundary, and sea-beach to the starting-point.

Commencing at the sea-coast, following the Mikonui River to its source; thence via Mount Fraser along the eastern watershed of the Mikonui River and Totara River and their tributaries, and along Harbour Board Endowment Reserve No. 146, Totara River, Woolhouse Road, Moorhouse Road, and sea-beach to the starting-point.

Between Mikonui and Paerua Rivers.—10 chains in width along the sea-coast from the Mikonui River to the commencement of the Bold Head Cliffs,
9.—10 chains in width along the sea-coast, from the Waitaha River to the commencement of the Opuku Cliffs.
10.—20 chains in width along each side of Duffers Creek, from the sea-coast to the Main South Road crossing; thence 10 chains along the main stream, and 5 chains along each side of its branches to their source.
11.—The northern watershed of Lake Lanthe, from a line 40 chains south-west of Trig. Station DV to the Main South Road.
12.—10 chains in width along each side of Evans Creek, from the Main South Road crossing to the first Forks, and from thence 5 chains along each side of the branch creeks to their sources.
13.—20 chains in width along each side of the Wanganui River, from a point 2 miles south of the Main South Road crossing to the junction with Lambert River, and the whole of the watershed of said Lambert River and its tributaries to the main range.
Existing races outside Blocks VIII. to XI. to be protected by a reserve of ½ chain in width on each side of them.
- Between Paerua and Waiko Rivers.—20 chains in width along the sea-coast, from a mile south of the Paerua River to the mouth of the Saltwater Creek; also a reserve of 1 chain wide for Watson’s Race outside this area, and a reserve for Watson’s dam.
15.—The whole of the watershed of the Waiteroa River and its tributaries, from a point 2 miles south of the Main South Road crossing to the Westland boundary (Main Range).
16.—10 chains in width along the sea-coast, from the mouth of the Okarito River to Commissioner’s Point, and 5 chains in width from Commissioner’s Point to the Waiteroa River.
17.—From Kohuamarua Bluff to the Waiho Bluff, comprising the Three-mile and Five-mile Beaches, and the Three-mile and Five-mile Lagoons, and the belt of the flat land around these lagoons which is liable to be flooded when the mouths of the rivers are closed by the action of the sea or the waters dammed back for mining purposes. It is also necessary to reserve, outside this block, ½ chain on each side of the Alpine Race to Alpine Lake and of the Okarito Race to Company’s Creek.
18.—Commencing at the south-eastern boundary of Educational Reserve No. 125 at a point 10 chains from the Okarito River; thence in a straight line to the southernmost part of Wahapo Lake; thence due south across Cockabulla Creek to the watershed between it and the Mapourika River; thence along the said watershed and McDonald’s Creek watershed to Lake Mapourika; thence westerly along the shore of Lake Mapourika to a point due west of Trig. Station IM; thence northerly by lines 10 chains west of and generally parallel to Mapourika and Okarito Rivers to the extension of the south-east boundary of Educational Reserve No. 125; and thence in a straight line to the commencing-point.
19.—20 chains on each side of the Waiho River, from the Main South Road crossing (lower crossing) to its junction with Kellery River, and the watershed of Kellery River and its tributaries from said junction to the Westland boundary (main range).
The above-described land being coloured yellow and more particularly defined on the plan, and numbered “Gaz. 161,” and deposited in the Surveyor-General’s Office, Wellington.
Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this eleventh day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven.
