Proclaiming Carterton a Borough under “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886.”

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” the Governor is empowered, by Proclamation, to declare any portion of the Colony of New Zealand to be a borough under the said Act from and after a day to be named in such Proclamation:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the said Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by the said Act, do hereby proclaim and declare that the district described in the Schedule hereto shall be and the same is hereby constituted, as from the first day of July, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven, a borough under the said Act; and I do further proclaim and declare that the name of such borough shall be the Borough of Carterton, and that the boundaries thereof shall be those described in the said Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that area in the Provincial District of Wellington, situate in the Tiffin Survey District, bounded towards the North-east by Sections Nos. 140 and 204, Taratahi Plain Block, by a line across the main road from Wellington to Masterton, and by Section No. 144 of the said block; towards the South-east by Section No. 116 of the said block, and the north-western boundary-line of that section produced across a road; again towards the North-east by the last-mentioned road; again towards the South-east by Sections Nos. 34 and 46 of the Township of Carterton, and the north-western boundary-line of the latter section produced across a road; thence by Sections Nos. 58 and 70 of the said Township of Carterton, and the north-western boundary-line of the last-mentioned section produced across a road; thence by Sections Nos. 82 and 94, and the north-western boundary-line of the last-mentioned section produced across a road; thence by Section No. 107 of the said Township of Carterton to its westernmost corner; thence towards the South-west by a straight line across a road to the southernmost corner of Section No. 106 of the said township, and by the road which forms the north-eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 135 and 215 of the Taratahi Plain Block to the southernmost corner of Section No. 241 of the said block; thence by the road which forms the north-eastern boundary of Section No. 243 of the said Taratahi Plain Block for a distance of 20 chains; and thence towards the North-west by a straight line to a point on the south-western boundary-line of Section No. 140 aforesaid 20 chains distant from the easternmost corner of Section No. 141 of the said Taratahi Plain Block.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this fifteenth day of June, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven.

Revoking Scale of Tolls at present in force at Manawatu Gorge Bridge, as from 1st July, 1887, and fixing new Scale in lieu thereof.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by a Proclamation under the hand of His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand, bearing date the third day of June, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-five, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of same date, rates of tolls were fixed, under the provisions of “The Immigration and Public Works Act, 1870,” to be payable at the bridge known as the “Gorge Bridge,” at the upper crossing of the Manawatu River, in the eastern part of the Gorge, between the Provincial Districts of Wellington and Hawke’s Bay:

And whereas the said bridge is a Government road within the meaning of “The Public Works Act, 1882” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”):

And whereas by the said Act it is provided that such scales of tolls may from time to time be revoked or altered:

And whereas it is desirable that the scale of tolls so fixed as aforesaid should be revoked in manner hereinafter appearing:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me by the said Act, do hereby revoke and annul the said scale of tolls as from the first day of July next, inclusive of such day, and in lieu thereof do hereby fix and appoint the rates of tolls set forth in the Schedule hereto as the scale of tolls to be paid for passing or re-passing through, over, or upon the said Gorge Bridge; and do further direct that such scale of tolls shall come into operation and have full force and effect on and from the first day of July now next ensuing.

Terms and Conditions of Sale of the Cape Turnagain Village Settlement, Hawke’s Bay Land District.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this fourteenth day of June, 1887.

Present:

His Excellency the Governor in Council.

WHEREAS by the one hundred and sixty-seventh section of “The Land Act, 1885,” it is enacted that the Governor in Council may fix the terms and conditions upon which the lands comprised in any village settlement shall be disposed of, and the mode of payment for the same:

And whereas His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand has, by Proclamation, set apart the lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto for sale as a village settlement:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon him by the hereinbefore in part recited Act, and by and with the advice of the Executive Council of the Colony of New Zealand, doth hereby fix the following terms and conditions upon which the said village settlement shall be disposed of, and the mode of payment for the same, that is to say,—

  1. The lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be disposed of as village allotments for cash.

  2. The day upon which the lands shall be open for application shall be Wednesday, the twentieth day of July, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven, at the Land Office, Napier.
