pursuance of the powers and authorities in me vested by
"The Public Works Act, 1882," and of every other power

of the publication hereof in the New Zealand Gazette, the
land mentioned in the Schedule hereto is hereby taken for
the purposes of the construction of the said road.

to land previously acquired for the purposes of the said
railway:

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by a Proclamation under the hand of His
Excellency the Governor of New Zealand, bearing
date the third day of June, one thousand eight hundred and
seventy-five, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of
same date, rates of tolls were fixed, under the provisions of
"The Immigration and Public Works Act, 1870," to be pay-
able at the bridge known as the "Gorge Bridge," at the
upper crossing of the Manawatu River, in the eastern part
of the Gorge, between the Provincial Districts of Wellington
and Hawke's Bay:
And whereas the said bridge is a Government road within
the meaning of "The Public Works Act, 1882" (hereinafter
termed "the said Act") :
