Sheep District of Wellington amended, and Sheep District of Oahanga constituted.—Notice No. 217.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS it is expedient that the Wellington Sheep District, as at present constituted, should be altered and reconstituted, and that a new district, to be called the Oahanga Sheep District, should be constituted :
Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by the eighth section of “The Sheep Act, 1878,” do hereby constitute anew the Wellington Sheep District, and the subdivisions thereof respectively, and hereby constitute a new district to be called the Oahanga Sheep District; and I do hereby declare that, for the purposes of the said Act, the said districts and the subdivision of the Wellington Sheep District shall hereafter be as the same are described in the Schedule hereto, including in such districts or subdivisions all boroughs within the territorial area comprised within the external boundaries of any such district or subdivision as defined in the said Schedule, although such boroughs do not actually form part of any county therein mentioned, and that such districts and subdivisions shall be known by the names set over each such district and subdivision respectively in the said Schedule.
SCHEDULE.
WELLINGTON SHEEP DISTRICT.
COMPRISING all that part of the colony included in the Counties of Hutt, Wairarapa North, and Wairarapa South, as such counties are at the date of this Proclamation respectively bounded and described, excepting the Oahanga Sheep District hereinafter described, and the Islands of Kapiti, Mana, and Somes; and shall comprise the following subdivisions :—
The Wellington Subdivision.
Comprising the hereinbefore-mentioned County of Hutt, together with the Islands of Kapiti, Mana, and Somes.
The North Wairarapa Subdivision.
Comprising the hereinbefore-mentioned County of Wairarapa North, excepting the Oahanga Sheep District hereinafter described.
The South Wairarapa Subdivision.
Comprising the hereinbefore-mentioned County of Wairarapa South.
OAHANGA SHEEP DISTRICT.
All that area in the County of Wairarapa North bounded towards the North-east generally by Sections Nos. 3, 4, and 5, Block I., Oahanga Survey District, Sections Nos. 6 and 213, Block II., and Sections Nos. 214, 215, 211, 141, 139, and 140, Oahanga Survey District; towards the South-east by the Waingongora Creek, the Mataikona Block, the Makatote Creek, the Pakowai River, and the creek forming the western boundaries of Sections Nos. 428, 425, 424, 423, Oahanga Survey District, and Section No. 411, Castlepoint Survey District; towards the South by Section No. 472, Castlepoint Survey District; towards the South-west by Sections Nos. 820, 12, 10, 9, and 819, Oahanga Survey District; again towards the South generally by said Section No. 819 and Sections Nos. 3, 2, 1, and 194, Puketoi Survey District; towards the West by Sections Nos. 15, 46, 27, and 48, Puketoi Survey District; and towards the North-west by a right line from the northern angle of said Section No. 48 to the southern angle of Section No. 3, Block I., Oahanga Survey District.
Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at Dunedin, this ninth day of February, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven.

General Regulations re Importation of Dogs under “Diseased Cattle Act, 1881.”—Notice No. 221.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this first day of February, 1887.
Present :
THE HONOURABLE THE PREMIER PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.
IN exercise and pursuance of the powers conferred on him by “The Diseased Cattle Act, 1881” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), and of all other powers and authorities in anywise enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby revoke so much as relates to dogs of the Orders in Council dated respectively the thirteenth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, the third day of April, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, and the twenty-second day of November, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, made under the provisions of the said Act, and also of the several regulations made thereunder, and in lieu thereof doth hereby make the general regulations set forth in the Schedule hereto; and doth order and declare that such last-mentioned regulations shall take effect from and after the first day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven.
SCHEDULE.
REGULATIONS.
IN these regulations the following words shall have the meanings hereby respectively assigned to them :—
“Inspector” means the Inspector or Deputy Inspector of the district appointed under “The Diseased Cattle Act, 1881:”
“Board” means the local Cattle Board of the district:
“The said Act” means “The Diseased Cattle Act, 1881:”
“Dog” means any dog or slut:
“Imported dog” means any dog or slut arriving in New Zealand from any place other than one of the Australasian Colonies:
“Disease” means rabies canina:
“Diseased” means suffering from rabies canina.

All dogs affected with disease, and all imported dogs, shall, until such dogs have passed through and been released from quarantine, as hereinafter provided, be treated as diseased.

The introduction of any dog into the colony found to be suffering from disease is prohibited.

No imported dog shall be landed in New Zealand except within one of the under-named ports, viz., Auckland, Napier, Port Nicholson, Nelson, Lyttelton, Port Chalmers, the Bluff Harbour.

When any vessel arrives at any port in New Zealand from any place other than one of the Australasian Colonies having on board any imported dog, the master of the vessel, and the owner or person in charge of any such dog on board any such vessel, shall, so soon as the vessel enters New Zealand waters, cause every such dog to be securely chained up or otherwise confined, so as to be unable to bite or come in contact with any person or dog coming on board, until an Inspector, by writing under his hand, shall otherwise order.

The master of every such vessel shall, with the least possible delay, furnish the Inspector stationed at or near the port of arrival with a description in writing of each imported dog on board of his vessel, stating where the same was shipped, the name of the owner or person in charge thereof (if any) on board the vessel, or the name of the consignee (if any) of every such dog.

All dogs on board any such vessel shall be forthwith examined by the Inspector or by a duly-qualified veterinary surgeon appointed by him; and, if such dogs are certified to be free from disease, the Inspector may grant a permit for the removal of such dogs by the owner or consignee to such quarantine-ground or other place as the Inspector may direct; and no dogs shall be removed from such vessel without permission in writing from an Inspector first had and obtained by the owner or consignee.

All imported dogs showing symptoms of disease on arrival, or during the term of quarantine, shall be destroyed; or, if any dog be not removed to a quarantine-station as directed by an Inspector, such dog shall be destroyed.

All imported dogs belonging to any of the officers or crew of a vessel arriving in the colony shall be placed in quarantine and remain therein for six months, or until the vessel by which such dogs arrived is about to leave New Zealand waters; and no dogs shall be removed from such quarantine-ground without permission in writing from an Inspector first had and obtained by the owner or agent.

All other imported dogs shall remain in quarantine for a term of not less than six months from the date of arrival.
