Defining the Middle Line of a Further Portion of the North Island Main Trunk Line of Railway, from a Point at or near Marton to Te Awamutu, via Murimotu, Taumarunui, and the Ongaruhe Valley (Further Portion of Porewa Contract—15 miles 60 chains to 18 miles 31 chains).

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS the North Island Main Trunk Railway, from a point at or near Marton to Te Awamutu, via Murimotu, Taumarunui, and the Ongaruhe Valley (further portion of Porewa Contract, from fifteen miles sixty chains to eighteen miles thirty-one chains), is one of the railways specified in the Schedule to “The Railways Authorization Act, 1884,” and which Act is, in the eighth section thereof, declared to be a special Act authorizing the construction of such railway; and such railway is unfinished, and it has been determined to construct and maintain a further portion of the same:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred on me by the aforesaid section eight of “The Railways Authorization Act, 1884,” and by sections one hundred and twenty-nine and one hundred and thirty of “The Public Works Act, 1882,” and in exercise of every other power and authority in anywise enabling me in that behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that the middle line of the said further portion of the said railway shall be as defined and set forth in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

COMMENCING at a point on the North Island Main Trunk Railway 15 miles 60 chains from the junction of said railway with the Foxton-New Plymouth Railway, the said point being the termination of a portion of the said line of railway as described in a Proclamation dated the 2nd April, 1885, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 21, of the 9th April, 1885, and proceeding generally in a northerly direction for a distance of 2 miles 51 chains to 18 miles 31 chains on the said Main Trunk Railway, and passing in, into, through, or over the following lands, situated in the Rangitikei County, Provincial District of Wellington, namely, the Rangatira Block, Crown lands in the Paraekaratu Block, and the Rangatira Block; and including all adjoining and intervening places, land, roads, reserves, streams, rivers, and watercourses: in the manner delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 13244, deposited in the office of the Registrar of the Supreme Court, at Wellington, in the Provincial District of Wellington.

Notice under “The Native Land Laws Amendment Act, 1883.”

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS the land described in the Schedule hereto is vested in certain aboriginal natives of New Zealand, subject to certain restrictions on the alienation of such land, and application has been made for the removal of such restrictions:

It is hereby notified that it is the intention of His Excellency the Governor, immediately after the expiration of sixty days from the publication of this notice in the Gazette and in the Kahiti, partially to remove the said restrictions on the alienation of the said land, so as to admit of the leasing of the said lands for twenty-one years.

SCHEDULE.

All that piece of land in the Parish of Puniu, County of Waikato, containing 33 acres, be the same a little more or less, being part of Allotment No. 14 of the said parish, and part of the land described in Vol. xxiv., folio 239, of the Register-book, and fully delineated upon those parts of a subdivision of the said Lot No. 14, marked respectively D and E upon such plan. Bounded towards the North-east by Allotment No. 344, 900 links; towards the South-east and East by a road-line, 1331 links; towards the South by a road-line, 745 links; towards the South-west by a road-line, 1085 links; and towards the North-east by a road-line, 2085 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less.

Native Land taken for Portion of Wellington-Napier Railway (from 72 miles to 78 miles from Napier).

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this ninth day of June, 1885.

HIS EXCELLENCE THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and in exercise of the powers vested in him by “The Public Works Act, 1882,” and of all other powers in anywise enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby order that the Government work known as the Wellington-Napier Railway (from seventy-two to seventy-eight miles from Napier) shall and may be constructed on or through the parcels of land mentioned in the Schedule hereto.
