A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS the land described in the Schedule hereto
is vested in certain aboriginal natives of New Zea-
land, subject to certain restrictions on the alienation of such
land, and application has been made for the removal of such
restrictions:
It is hereby notified that it is the intention of His Excel-
lency the Governor, immediately after the expiration of
sixty days from the publication of this notice in the Gazette
and in the Kahiti, to remove the said restrictions on the
alienation of the said land.

Portions of Waotu North No. 28 Block, Waikato, contain-
ing together about 28 acres, proposed to be acquired by the
Crown for educational and telegraph purposes, as delineated
on the plan of the said block, deposited in the Survey Office,
Auckland.
Order to take Land for the North Island Main Trunk Rail-
way. Length about 210 miles.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this second day
of April, 1885.
Present:
His Excellency the Governor in Council.
IN pursuance and in exercise of the powers vested in me
by "The Public Works Act, 1882," and of all other
powers enabling me in that behalf, I, William Francis
Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zea-
land, do hereby, with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the said colony, order that a railway, having an
average width of three hundred links, extending from a
point on the right bank of the Puniu River, in the Pro-
vincial District of Auckland, to a point at the intersection of
the railway-line from Foxton to New Plymouth Railway,
situated in Section seven, Block three, Rangitoto Survey
District, Provincial District of Wellington, shall be con-
structed on or through all lands held or occupied by Native
owners; the total length being two hundred and ten miles or
thereabouts: as delineated upon the plan marked P.W.D.
12069, deposited in the office of the Minister for Public
Works, at Wellington, in the Provincial District of Wel-
ington:

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this sixth day of
May, 1885.
Present:
His Excellency the Governor in Council.
WHEREAS by "The Militia Act, 1870" (hereinafter
called "the said Act"), it is enacted that it shall be
lawful for the Governor in Council from time to time to
constitute districts throughout the Middle Island and Stewart
Island, or in any part thereof, and to vary and abolish any
districts so constituted and constitute new districts in lieu
thereof, and to give to the Militia of any such district such
name as he may think fit, and from time to time to alter such
name and give a new name thereto, and that the Militia of
each district constituted by or under the said Act should be
called by the name, if any, given to the district by the said
Act or by the Governor, as the case might be: And whereas
it is expedient to abolish all districts heretofore constituted
under the said Act, or the Acts thereby repealed, within the
Middle Island and Stewart Island aforesaid, and to constitute
in lieu thereof the districts hereinafter specified and
described:
Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, with the advice
and consent of the Executive Council, and in exercise of the
powers and authorities conferred by the said Act, do abolish all
districts heretofore constituted within the Middle Island of
New Zealand and Stewart Island under the said Act or the
Acts thereby repealed respectively, and in lieu thereof do
hereby constitute, for the purpose of the said Act, the
several districts specified and described in the Schedule
hereto, and doth hereby proclaim and declare that each such
district shall be known by the name set down the same in the
said Schedule.
SCHEDULE.
Militia Districts, Middle Island.
Nelson District.
Waimoa County.
Marlborough District.
Bounded on the North by the sea from the mouth of the
Pelorus River to the mouth of the Awatere River; on the
South-east by the Awatere River to a line drawn through
Mitre Peak and Mount Rintoul; on the South-west by the
same line from the Awatere River as far as the boundary of
the County of Marlborough; and on the North-west by that
boundary to the Pelorus River, and by that river to the sea.
Canterbury North.
Bounded on the North by the Hurunui River; on the
South-east by the sea from the mouth of the Hurunui River
to the mouth of Rakaia River; on the South-west by the
Rakaia River; and on the North-west by a line parallel to
the sea-coast twenty miles inland.
Canterbury South.
Bounded on the North by the Rakaia River; on the
South-east by the sea; on the South by the Waitaki River;
and on the West by a line parallel to the sea-coast sixteen
miles inland.
Otago North.
Bounded on the North by the Waitaki River; on the East
by the sea from Waitaki mouth to Waikouaiti River; thence
on the South by a line bearing west-north-west twenty
miles long inland; and on to the West by a line parallel to
the sea-coast twenty miles inland to Waitaki River.
Otago South.
Bounded on the North by the Otago North District; on
the South-east by the sea from Waikouaiti River to the
mouth of the Clutha River; on the South-west by that river
and the Pomahaka River to the junction of the Pomahaka
and Waipahi Rivers; and on the North-west by a line passing
to the west of Waitahuna and parallel to the sea-coast to the
line forming the southern boundary of the Otago North Dis-
trict.
Southland District.
Bounded on the North-east by the Otago South District;
on the South by the sea; on the West by Jacobs River;
and on the North by a line parallel to the sea-coast twenty
miles inland to the Clutha River.
Westland District.
Bounded on the North-east by a right line from the mouth
of Waireatea River to a point three miles due east of Reefton;
on the South-east by a right line from that point to the
