- In this regulation the expression “Western Pacific Islands” means and includes any of the following islands or places, namely :—
(1.) The part of the Island of New Guinea eastward of the 149rd meridian of longitude.
(2.) The Islands or Archipelago of New Britain and New Ireland.
(3.) The Louisiada Archipelago.
(4.) The groups of islands known as the Friendly Islands, the Navigators Islands, the Union Islands, the Phoenix Islands, the Ellice Islands, the Gilbert Islands, the Marshall Islands or Archipelago, the Caroline Islands, the Solomon Islands, the Santa Cruz Islands.
(5.) All other islands in the Western Pacific Ocean not being within the limits of the Colonies of Fiji, Queensland, or New South Wales, and not being within the jurisdiction of any civilized power.
The expression “the waters of the Western Pacific Islands” means the waters within three miles of any of the islands or places included in the Western Pacific Islands.
The word “arms” means every kind of firearms and any part or parts of firearms.
The word “ammunition” means every kind of ammunition for firearms and any material for the preparation thereof.
The expression “explosive substance” means gunpowder, nitro-glycerine, dynamite, gun-cotton, blasting-powder, and every other substance used or manufactured with a view to produce a practical effect by explosion.
- British vessels within the waters of the Western Pacific Islands shall not carry arms or ammunition. But this prohibition shall not be held to prevent or forbid the carriage by any such vessel, for the protection of the same and of the persons therein, and otherwise for the ordinary lawful purposes of such vessel, of arms and ammunition, in quantities not exceeding those herein specified, viz. :—
One rifle or shot-gun and one pistol for every member of the crew of such vessel whose name shall be on the articles.
One hundred rounds of ammunition for every such rifle, shot-gun, or pistol on board.
Cannons or swivel-guns forming part of the ordinary equipment of any such vessel, together with one hundred rounds of ammunition for every such gun.

British subjects within the Western Pacific Islands shall not give, sell, or otherwise supply any arms, ammunition, or explosive substance to any native of any island or place within the Western Pacific Islands.

Any British subject who shall carry, or aid, or abet the carriage of any arms or ammunition in any British vessel within the waters of the Western Pacific Islands, except as permitted by this regulation, shall be guilty of an offence against this regulation.

Any British subject within the Western Pacific Islands who shall give, sell, or otherwise supply, or aid or assist in supplying, any arms, or any single firearm, or any ammunition or explosive substance, to any native of any island or place within the Western Pacific Islands, shall be guilty of an offence against this regulation.

Any person guilty of an offence against this regulation shall, on conviction thereof, be liable to punishment as follows :—
(1.) Imprisonment for any term not exceeding three months, with or without hard labour, and with or without a fine not exceeding £10 ; or
(2.) A fine alone, not exceeding £10, without any imprisonment. -
This regulation shall come into force on the first day of July, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, and may be cited as “The Arms Regulation, 1884.”

NOTICE is hereby given that EDWARD WATERS, Patent Agent, of Melbourne, in the Colony of Victoria, has applied, on behalf of THE DYNAMIT ACTIEN GESELLSCHAFT, VORMALS ALFRED NOBEL AND COMPANY, of Hamburg, in the Empire of Germany, trading in Australia as the “Hamburg Dynamite Company (Limited), formerly Alfred Nobel and Company,” to register, under “The Trade Marks Act, 1866,” the trade mark of which the following is a description, viz. :—
Description of Trade Mark.
The representation of a globe between the words “Hamburg” on the left, and “Germany” on the right. Diagonally across the globe is a band bearing the device of two hammers or martels proper crossed. In a semicircle above the globe are the words “Hamburg Dynamite Coy., Ltd.,” and in a semicircle below are the words “Formerly Alfred Nobel & Coy.”
Nature of the Articles to which it is intended such Trade Mark shall apply.
Explosive compounds such as dynamite.

NOTICE is hereby given that EDWARD WATERS, Patent Agent, of Melbourne, in the Colony of Victoria, has applied, on behalf of HOLMES SAMUEL CHIPMAN, of No. 9, William Street, in the City of Melbourne aforesaid, Merchant, to register, under “The Trade Marks Act, 1866,” the trade mark of which the following is a description, viz. :—
Description of Trade Mark.
An oblong label, on the right-hand side of which is the device of a fan, bearing a representation of a hand holding a brush. On the back of said brush is the word “Electric,” and above it is the device of a mailed arm dexter, scattering lightning. Beneath the word “Electric” are two concentric circles supporting a crown. On the face of the fan are the words “All bristles,” and on the outer edge thereof are the words “The Pall Mall Electric Association of London props.” The remainder of the label is divided longitudinally into two portions, in the upper of which are two arches bearing respectively the words “Dr. Scott’s” and “Electric,” and in the lower portion are the words “Hair Brush,” the whole being enclosed by an ornamental border.
Nature of the Articles to which it is intended such Trade Mark shall apply.
Electric hair-brushes, electric flesh-brushes, and electric tooth-charms.

THE following certificate and declaration are published in conformity with the provisions of “The Criminals Executions Act, 1883.”

I, THOMAS RADFORD KING, the Medical Officer in attendance at the execution of John Donohue, at the prison of Hokitika, do hereby certify and declare that I have this day witnessed the execution of the said John Donohue, at the said prison; and I do further certify and declare that the said John Donohue was, in pursuance of the sentence of the Supreme Court, hanged by the neck until his body was dead.
Given under my hand this eleventh day of June, in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, at the prison of Hokitika.

DECLARATION.
WE do hereby testify and declare that we have this day been present when the extreme penalty of the law was carried into execution on the body of John Donohue, convicted at the criminal session of the Supreme Court held at Hokitika on the thirteenth day of March last, and sentenced to death; and that the said John Donohue was, in pursuance of the said sentence, hanged by the neck until his body was dead.
Dated this eleventh day of June, in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, at the prison of Hokitika.
