Notice as to Classification of Land in the Duntron-Hakateramea Railway District.

WHEREAS the Assessors appointed to revise the classification, for the purposes of section ten of “The District Railways Act, 1877,” of the land comprised within the Duntron-Hakateramea Railway District, have, after hearing the Railway Company and the ratepayers and property-owners interested, recommended a re-classification of the said lands, and that the same should henceforth be divided into three classes as hereinafter mentioned, in lieu of two classes as heretofore:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon me by “The District Railways Acts Amendment Act, 1883,” do hereby notify and declare that the lands included within the said Duntron-Hakateramea Railway District, heretofore divided into two classes only, shall, as from the day of the date hereof, be removed out of such classes, and shall thenceforth be divided into three classes, in the manner and to the extent specified in the Schedule hereto; and, further, that the liability to rate of each class shall be in the proportions set opposite such class respectively in the third column of the said Schedule.

SCHEDULE.

Number and Nature of Class. Area and Description of Land included in Class. Proportion of Liability to Rate.
Lands to be altogether omitted from any class (edged green on Plans P.W.D. 11341). All that portion of the Duntron and Hakateramea Railway District, in the Provincial District of Otago, containing by admeasurement 600 acres, more or less, and included within boundary-lines as follows, viz.: Commencing at a point at the junction of the Maruwenua River with the Waitaki River; thence along the Maruwenua River to a point due south of the western boundary-line of the Town of Duntron; thence in a northerly direction to and along the said western boundary-line to the north-western corner of the Town of Duntron; thence north-westerly across a road to the south-western corner of Section No. 6, Block V., Maruwenua; thence along the western and north-eastern boundaries of said Section No. 6 of said block to its north-eastern corner; thence along the eastern boundary of Section No. 16 of said block to its north-eastern corner, and in the same line produced to the Waitaki River; thence easterly along the Waitaki River to the starting-point. The full rate levied.
Class I. (edged yellow on Plans P.W.D. 11341). Lands receiving, or supposed to receive, immediate and direct benefit from the construction of the railway. All that portion of the Duntron and Hakateramea Railway District, in the Provincial Districts of Otago and Canterbury, containing by admeasurement 105,400 acres, more or less, and included within boundary-lines as follows, viz.: Commencing at a point on the south side of the Waitaki River due north of the eastern boundary of Section No. 3, Block V., Maruwenua; thence in a straight line to the north-eastern corner of said Section No. 3, and along its eastern boundary to its southernmost corner; thence south-easterly across a road to the north-eastern corner of Section No. 5 of same block; thence along the eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 5 and 8 to the southernmost corner of Section No. 8; thence westerly along the southern boundary of Block V. to the north-eastern corner of the Hospital Reserve in Block VI., Maruwenua; thence southerly and westerly along the south-eastern boundary of said Hospital Reserve to its south-western corner; thence northerly and westerly along the southern boundary of the Oamaru Municipal Endowment in Block XI., Maruwenua, to the north-western corner of Section No. 5 of said Block XI.; thence along the south-eastern boundary of Section No. 2 of same block to its southernmost corner; thence along the south-western boundaries of Section No. 2, Block XI., and Section No. 1, Block XIII., to the western boundary of Maruwenua District; thence northerly along said district boundary to the Otiak River; thence across Otiak River to the southernmost corner of Block II., Kurow; thence north-westerly and westerly along the boundaries of Block II., Kurow, to its westernmost corner; thence in a straight line north-westerly to the south-west corner of Block VI., Kurow; thence northerly along the western boundary of Block VI., Kurow, to the Waitaki River; thence south-easterly along the Waitaki River to a point opposite the southernmost corner of Section No. 12270, in the Provincial District of Canterbury; thence across the Waitaki River to the said corner; thence generally northerly along the south-west boundaries of Sections Nos. 12270, 11442, 29561, the north-western boundary of Section No. 29561, and the western boundaries of Sections Nos. 28429 and 26278 to the southernmost corner of Section No. 34725; thence along the south-western boundaries of Sections Nos. 34725 and 34724, the western boundary of Section No. 34725, the south-western boundaries of Sections Nos. 31550 and 31549, the north-western and north-eastern boundaries of Section No. 31549, and the north-western boundary of Section No. 31553 to the southernmost corner of Section No. 31619; thence along the south-western and north-western boundaries of Section No. 31619 and the south-western boundary of Section No. 31551 to the south-eastern corner of Section No. 31620; thence along the southern boundary of Section 31620, the western boundaries of Sections Nos. 31620 and 31621, and the southern and western boundaries of Section No. 31622 to the south-eastern corner of Section No. 31626; thence along the southern, western, and northern boundaries of Section No. 31626, the western boundary of Section No. 31622, the north-western and north-eastern boundaries of Section No. 31625, and the north-western boundary of Section No. 31770 to the south-western corner of Section No. 31624; thence along the western and northern boundaries of Sections Nos. 31624, 31771, and 26079 to the westernmost corner of Section No. 30125; thence along the north-western boundaries of Sections Nos. 30125, 29836, 29838, and 29792 to the northernmost corner of Section 29792; thence generally easterly along the north-eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 29792 and 29791, the north-western boundary of Section No. 31706, the north-eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 31706, 31962, and Reserve No. 2284 to the Hakateramea River; thence across said river to the junction of Bluestone Creek; thence along Bluestone Creek to the northernmost corner of Section No. 28413; thence generally southerly along the south-eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 28413, 29414, 29418, and 29753, and the north-eastern and south-eastern boundaries of Section No. 28322 to its southernmost corner; thence in a straight line south-westerly to the westernmost corner of Section No. 26517; thence along the south-eastern and south-western boundaries of
