Number and Nature of Class. Area and Description of Land included in Class. Proportion of Liability to Rate.
Class II. (edged blue on Plans P.W.D. 11341). Lands receiving, or supposed to receive, less direct benefit. Section No. 26517 to the easternmost corner of Section No. 34237; thence south-westerly along the south-eastern boundary of Section No. 34237 to its south-eastern corner, and in same line produced to and across the Waitaki River; thence generally south-easterly along the south side of the Waitaki River to the starting-point.

All that portion of the Duntrroon and Hakateramea Railway District, situate in the Provincial Districts of Otago and Canterbury, and containing by admeasurement 368,000 acres, more or less, included within the boundary-lines as follows, with the exception of those lands described as being Class I., viz.: Commencing at a point on the south side of the Waitaki River due north of the north-eastern corner of Section No. 16, Block V., Maruwenua; thence in a straight line to the north-eastern corner of said section and along its eastern boundary to its southernmost corner; thence along the north-eastern and western boundaries of Section No. 6 of same block to its south-western corner; thence north-easterly across a road to the north-west corner of the Town of Duntrroon; thence along the western boundary of the Town of Duntrroon to its south-west corner; thence due south to the Maruwenua River; thence along the Maruwenua River and the north branch thereof to the point formed by the junction of the boundaries of Runs Nos. 17, 28, and 362A, at Kyeburn Hill; thence along the boundary-lines between Runs Nos. 362A, 362B, 445 (Crown lands unoccupied), 439, 403, 322A, 322, and 1 of C on the one side, and Runs Nos. 17, 28, 23, 243A, 243B, 160C, 160B, and 160A on the other side to the point where the Ahuriri River joins the Waitaki River; thence south-easterly along the south bank of the Waitaki River to a point opposite the south-western corner of Reserve No. 1574, in the Provincial District of Canterbury; thence across the Waitaki River to the said corner; thence north-easterly along the north-western boundary of Reserve No. 1574 to its northernmost corner; thence by a right line to the north-eastern corner of Run No. 311; thence along the western boundary of Run No. 691 to the creek which forms the northern boundary of Sections Nos. 30128 and 29868, Mackenzie Survey District; thence south-easterly along the said creek to its junction with the Hakateramea River; thence southerly along the Hakateramea River to the northern boundary of Run No. 163; thence along the northern boundary of Run No. 163 to its north-eastern corner; thence southerly along the eastern boundary of the Duntrroon and Hakateramea Railway District to the Waitaki River; thence across the Waitaki River to its southern bank; and south-easterly along the Waitaki River to the starting-point. | Two-thirds of such rate. |

Lands receiving only the benefit incidental to or derived generally from the construction of the railway. | All that portion of the Duntrroon and Hakateramea Railway District, in the Provincial Districts of Otago and Canterbury, and containing by admeasurement 326,000 acres, more or less, being all those lands within the said railway district not excepted from classification and not included in Classes I. and II. | One-third of such rate. |

Notice of Intention to change the Purpose of a Portion of a Reserve.

WHEREAS by “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” it is, amongst other things, enacted that the Governor may declare his intention to make, change, exchange, or alter the dedication of any public reserve now or hereafter vested in Her Majesty or the Governor for any of the purposes named in Class II. of the Schedule to the said Act, whether the same be granted or not; and, in the case of any reserves made under the authority of section one hundred and forty-four of “The Land Act, 1877,” if it shall, in the opinion of the Governor, be expedient to change the purpose of such reserves or any part thereof from the purpose or presumed purpose for which it was set apart to any other purpose, or if it shall, in the opinion of the Governor, be expedient to exchange any of the land comprised in such reserve for other land of equal value, to be dedicated to one or more purposes named in the said Class II., the Governor may, by notice in the Gazette, declare his intention to make such change, exchange, or dedication, as the case may be, and in such notice declare the manner and terms in which the same is intended to be so made:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” aforesaid, declare my intention to change the specific purpose of a portion of the reserve described in the first column of the Schedule hereto, the area of which is described in the second column of the said Schedule, to the specific purpose set opposite such description in the third column of the said Schedule.


SCHEDULE.

Description and Purpose of Original Reserve. Portion of which the Purpose is intended to be changed. Intended Purpose.
Reserve No. 869 (in red): All that tract of land, 40 chains wide, commencing at the western end of Reserve No. 868 (in red); thence following along the southern shore of Lake Sumner and the slopes of the hills on the south side of the Hurunui Valley to the summit of the dividing range, a distance of about twenty-two miles. For railway purposes. All that parcel of land in the Katrine Survey District, Provincial District of Canterbury, containing 100 acres, more or less, being part of Reserve No. 869 (in red). Bounded — Northward by the Hurunui River, about 3500 links; Westward by a true north and south line, 2850 links; Southward by a true east and west line, 3500 links; and Eastward by a line parallel to the western boundary, 2870 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less; and numbered 2629 (in red) on the official map in the Survey Office, Christchurch. Recreation and Thermal Springs Reserve.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this first day of April, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.
