Te Makarini Scholarships.
THREE Scholarships of the annual value of £35 each, to
be held at the Native College, Te Aute, Hawke's Bay,
are offered for competition to Maori or half-caste youths, on
the conditions laid down in the Regulations of the Trustees
of the Te Makarini Scholarships Fund. The examination
will be held at convenient centres on the 17th and 18th of
December, 1883.
Candidates must, either directly or through their teachers,
send notice to the Inspector of Native Schools, Education
Department, Wellington, of their intention to present them-
selves for examination. Such notice must be posted not
later than the 31st October next.
Copies of the regulations and forms of notice may be ob-
tained from teachers of Native schools and boarding institu-
tions, the Secretaries to Education Boards, or the Secretary
to the Education Department.

Gold-Mining Lease cancelled.
Mines Department,
Wellington, 15th September, 1883.
IT is hereby notified that His Excellency the Governor has
been pleased to pronounce the under-mentioned gold-
mining lease cancelled, and that the ground is now open for
application as if no lease of the said ground had ever been
applied for:—
William Brandon and others; 10 acres, Section 12, Block
II., Waitakere District, Nelson South-West Mining District.

Gold-Mining Lease.—Application cancelled.
IT is hereby notified that the application of Arthur Sidney
Frederick Parker for a gold-mining lease of Section 7,
Block IV., Mount Hyde, in the Hindon Mining District,
has been declared lapsed and cancelled, and that the said
land is now open for application or occupation by holders of
miners' rights as if no lease of the same had ever been
applied for:—
