upon which the said village settlement shall be disposed of,
and the mode of payment for the same; that is to say, —

  1. The lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be
    disposed of as small-farm allotments upon deferred payments.
  2. The day upon which the lands shall be open for appli-
    cation shall be Wednesday, the twenty-fourth day of October,
    one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three, at the Land
    Office, Invercargill.
  3. The sections shall be subject to the provisions relating to
    suburban lands of Part III. of "The Land Act, 1877," and to
    the provisions of section nine of "The Land Act 1877 Amend-
    ment Act, 1879."
  4. No person shall be allowed to acquire more than one
    section.
  5. The price stated in the Schedule hereto shall be the
    price at which the lands shall be open for application.
  6. If there should be more than one application for any
    allotment, the right to occupy the same shall be determined
    by lot amongst the applicants.
  7. Each applicant will be required to make the declaration
    prescribed by section sixty-two of "The Land Act, 1877,"
    and shall at the time of application deposit with the Receiver
    of Land Revenue for the Southland Land District one-tenth
    of the price of the allotment. Such payment shall be deemed
    to be a discharge of the license-fee due on the first day of
    January, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.
  8. The purchaser of any lands described in the Schedule
    hereto, upon the payment, and also the fulfilment of the
    terms and conditions prescribed by "The Land Act, 1877,"
    and "The Land Act 1877 Amendment Act, 1879," relating to
    land on deferred payments, will be entitled to his Crown
    grant, to be issued in the usual way upon payment of the
    fees prescribed by law.

Notice of Intention to change the Purpose of a Reserve.

WHEREAS by "The Public Reserves Act, 1881," it is,
amongst other things, enacted that the Governor
may declare his intention to make, change, exchange, or
alter the dedication of any public reserve now or hereafter
vested in Her Majesty or the Governor for any of the pur-
poses named in Class II. of the Schedule to the said Act,
whether the same be granted or not; and, in the case of any
reserves made under the authority of section one hundred
and forty-four of "The Land Act, 1877," if it shall, in the
opinion of the Governor, be expedient to change the purpose
of such reserves or any part thereof from the purpose or pre-
sumed purpose for which it was set apart to any other pur-
pose, or if it shall, in the opinion of the Governor, be expe-
dient to exchange any of the land comprised in such reserve
for other land of equal value, to be dedicated to one or more
purposes named in the said Class II., the Governor may, by
notice in the Gazette, declare his intention to make such
change, exchange, or dedication, as the case may be, and in
such notice declare the manner and terms in which the same
is intended to be so made:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby, in
exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested
in me by "The Public Reserves Act, 1881," aforesaid, declare
my intention to change the specific purpose of a portion of
the reserve described in the first column of the Schedule
hereto, the area of which is described in the second column
of the said Schedule, to the specific purpose set opposite such
description in the third column of the said Schedule.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by "The Animals
Protection Act, 1880," and "The Animals Protection
Act Amendment Act, 1881," I, William Francis Drummond
Jervois, do hereby declare that from and after the date hereof
hare shall cease to be within the operation of the said Acts
within the Chatham Islands.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this thirty-first day of August, one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-three.

Fixing Sittings of District Court of Christchurch.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority in
this behalf enabling me, I, William Francis Drummond
Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do
hereby fix and appoint that sittings of the District Court of
Christchurch, for civil business, shall be held as follows, from
and after the first proximo, in lieu of those previously fixed
and appointed:—

In the Provincial Council Chamber, Christchurch, on the
fourth day of every month.

Provided that, in case any of the days so fixed as aforesaid
shall happen to be a Sunday or a holiday, then the Court
appointed for that day shall be holden on the first day there-
after not being a Sunday or a holiday.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this sixth day of September, one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-three.
