with their names thereon, one card to be left on the table at the
entrance-door, and the other to be given to the Aide-de-Camp.

SIR,—I have the honour to inform you that, at a poll taken on
Monday, the 8th January, 1883, in the Town Hall, Caversham,
to decide whether the burgesses of Caversham are favourable,
or otherwise, for the Council to borrow the sum of twenty
thousand pounds sterling, on the security of the general rates,
for works and drainage within the borough, the following
number of votes were recorded:—

There being 597 burgesses on the roll, and, as the number of
votes given for the proposal exceeds one-half of the total
