School Commissioner appointed.

PURSUANT to "The Education Reserves Act, 1877," and
"The Education Reserves Act 1877 Amendment Act,
1882," the Education Board of the District of Wellington has
appointed

JOHN RUTHERFORD BLAIR, Esq.,

to be a School Commissioner for the Provincial District of Wel-
lington, vice the Hon. C. J. Pharazyn, whose term of office has
expired.

Promotion in the Survey Department.

Arrangements for First Elections, County of Oroua.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint

HUGH LIND SHERWILL

to be the person to prepare new electors' rolls for the County of
Oroua, as constituted by a Proclamation dated 25th June, 1883;
also, to appoint the under-mentioned persons to be returning
officers to conduct the first elections of Councillors for the
following Ridings of the said County of Oroua:—

For the Kiwitea Riding:
EDMUND GOODBEHERE.

For the Waituna Riding:
HUGH LIND SHERWILL.

For the Ashurst Riding:
EDWARD HENRY WRIGHT.

For the Taonui Riding:
THOMAS SAMUEL HOE.

For the Fitzherbert Riding:

also, to appoint Saturday, the 21st July, 1883, to be the day for
holding the said first elections; also, to appoint Saturday, the
28th July, 1883, at half-past 12 o'clock in the afternoon, at the
office of the Manchester Road Board, Feilding, to be the time
and place for holding the first meeting of the Councillors of the
said County of Oroua.

Application for Registration of a Trade Mark.

NOTICE is hereby given that EDWARD WATERS, Patent
Agent, of Melbourne, in the Colony of Victoria, has
applied, on behalf of the firm of SMITH AND GIBB, of 92,
Oxford Road, Manchester, in the County of Lancaster,
England, and of 123, Hope Street, Glasgow, in the County of
Lanark, Scotland, Wine and Spirit Merchants, to register under
"The Trade Marks Act, 1866," the trade mark of which the
following is a description, viz.:—

Description of Trade Mark.

A mast and sail set on a scroll between the abbreviated word
"Estd" and the figures "1825," and above the words "Dabit
Deus Vela," under which are the words "Argyle and the Isles,"
and under which are the words "Finest Highland Malt Whisky"
(referring to the goods to which the mark is to be applied),
followed by the names "Smith and Gibb, Glasgow" (being the
name and one place of address of the said firm), the whole being
within double oblong border lines with rounded corners.

Nature of the Article to which it is intended such Trade
Mark shall apply.

Bonuses on Colonial Industries.

Colonial Secretary's Office,
Wellington, 2nd February, 1883.

NOTICE is hereby given that the following bonuses will be
paid on articles produced in the Colony of New Zealand,
as under:—

SILK.

A bonus of fifty per cent. on the value realized for the first
thousand pounds' (£1,000) worth of coccons of the silkworm,
or silkworms' eggs, produced in the colony, to be paid on quan-
tities of not less value than fifty pounds (£50) nor more than
one hundred pounds (£100) produced by any one person.

MANGANEISEN AND MANGANESE-BRONZE.

A bonus of five hundred pounds (£500) will be given for the
first two thousand five hundred pounds' (£2,500) worth of man-
ganeisen, and a similar bonus for a like amount of manganese-
bronze, produced in the colony from New Zealand ores, and
sold at a fair market price in a foreign market.

MARBLE.

A bonus of three hundred pounds (£300) will be given for
the first fifteen hundred pounds' (£1,500) worth of New Zea-
land marble exported from the colony, and sold in a foreign
market at a price of not less than 9s. per cubic foot.

ANTIMONY.

A bonus of five hundred pounds (£500) will be given for the
first 250 tons of antimony regulus produced in the colony from
New Zealand ores, and sold at a fair market price in a foreign
market.

Conditions.

  1. Notice of intention to claim any of the above bonuses
    must be given in writing to the Colonial Secretary not later
    than the 31st December, 1883.

  2. The claim must be made before the 30th June, 1884.

  3. The first claimant of any bonus who proves to the satis-
    faction of the Government that he has fulfilled all the condi-
    tions to be the recipient of the bonus.

  4. The other conditions as to quantity, priority, quality, and
    value to be fulfilled to the satisfaction of an officer appointed
    for the purpose by the Government.

Further information and particulars may be obtained by
application at the Colonial Secretary's Office.

WROUGHT-IRON.

A bonus of one thousand pounds (£1,000) will be given for
the production, in New Zealand, by a direct process, of 200
tons of "iron blooms," of marketable quality, from ore produced
in New Zealand.

Conditions.

  1. The bonus not to be given for any quantity less than 100
    tons.

  2. Notice of the intention to erect ironworks and claim the
    bonus must be given to the Colonial Secretary before the 31st
    December, 1883.

  3. The bonus must be claimed before the 31st December,

  4. In the event of more than one claimant giving such
    notice, not more than seven-tenths of the bonus may be claimed
    by the first producer, and not more than three-tenths by the
    second producer; but if only one claimant becomes a producer
    on the above conditions, he may claim the whole of the bonus.

  5. The iron in respect of which any bonus is claimed, and
    the ore from which it is manufactured, will be examined by an
    officer to be appointed by the Government, who may require
    the production of bond fide account-sales of quantities not less
    than 100 tons weight, showing that such iron has been sold at
    a fair market price as wrought-iron.
