in New Zealand.

Conditions.

  1. The bonus not to be given for any quantity less than 100
    tons.
  2. Notice of the intention to erect ironworks and claim the
    bonus must be given to the Colonial Secretary before the 31st
    December, 1883.
  3. The bonus must be claimed before the 31st December,
  4. In the event of more than one claimant giving such
    notice, not more than seven-tenths of the bonus may be claimed
    by the first producer, and not more than three-tenths by the
    second producer; but if only one claimant becomes a producer
    on the above conditions, he may claim the whole of the bonus.
  5. The iron in respect of which any bonus is claimed, and
    the ore from which it is manufactured, will be examined by an
    officer to be appointed by the Government, who may require
    the production of bond fide account-sales of quantities not less
    than 100 tons weight, showing that such iron has been sold at
    a fair market price as wrought-iron.

Waratahi Bay Light, and Leading Light, Cape Capricorn.

NOTICE TO MARINERS, NO. 5 OF 1883.

THE following Notices to Mariners, received from the
Portmaster, Brisbane, are published for general information.

WARATAH BAY LIGHT.

NOTICE is hereby given that on and after the 1st April, 1883, a
red light will be exhibited from a lamp-post erected on shore
about 120 feet above the ordinary sea-level, and two cables'
length W.S.W. from the Bird Rocks.

The light is an ordinary jetty-light, and will be seen all round
seaward, in clear weather, about three miles distant.

Vessels entering the bay will find anchorage in 6 fathoms
water, with the light bearing S.W. distant 7 cables.

LEADING LIGHT, CAPE CAPRICORN.

ON and after this date a small catoptric light will be exhibited
from the north-western slope of Cape Capricorn, at an elevation
of 100 feet above the sea-level.

This light, in line with the main light on the cape, and
bearing from it N. 70Β° W., leads clear of the Cottier Bank, and
intersects the line of leading lights from Sea Hill at a distance
of nearly three miles from the Timandra Buoy.

In south-easterly weather small craft can pick up a good
anchorage under the lee of the cape, in 3 fathoms, on the
line of lights, with the main light just dipped behind the
buildings, and at a distance of a short quarter of a mile from
the shore.

The light will in fine weather be visible in the direction of
the line of lights to a distance of fourteen miles.

Alterations in Rules and Regulations, New Zealand Railways.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon me by
section 144 of "The Public Works Act, 1882," I, Walter
Woods Johnston, the Minister for Public Works, do hereby
make the following by-law, namely:---

ENGINEMEN AND FIREMEN.

RULE 399 of rules and regulations made for the conduct of the
traffic and for the guidance and observance of the officers and
men employed on the New Zealand Railways, and published in
a Supplement to the New Zealand Gazette of the 28th day of
April, 1881, is hereby repealed.

As witness my hand, this twelfth day of April, 1883.

called a "Multiplex Registrar."

THOMAS CLARKE JENKINS, of the City of Wellington and
Colony of New Zealand, Clerk, has deposited at this office a speci-
fication of the said invention; and I have appointed Friday, the
6th day of July next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office,
to hear the said application and all objections thereto; and I
require all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of
such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 21st day of
June next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objec-
tions to the said application, otherwise they will be precluded
from urging the same.

NOTICE. His Honour Alexander James Johnston, Esquire,
Judge at Christchurch of the Supreme Court of New Zea-
land, has this day appointed ALFRED DONNISON, of 71, Cornhill,
London, Notary Public and Conveyancer, a Commissioner of
the Supreme Court of New Zealand in England, under "The
Commissioners of the Supreme Court Act, 1875," for the pur-
pose of administering and taking all such oaths, affidavits, and
affirmations as in the said Act mentioned.

NOTICE. His Honour Alexander James Johnston, Esquire,
Judge at Christchurch of the Supreme Court of New Zea-
land, has this day appointed ALFRED DONNISON, of 71,
Cornhill, London, Notary Public and Conveyancer, a Commis-
sioner of the Supreme Court of New Zealand in England,
under "The Commissioners of the Supreme Court Act, 1875,"
for the purpose of taking acknowledgments of married women
under any Act or law in force in the Colony of New Zealand
requiring such acknowledgments to be made or taken.

Court of New Zealand in the said colony, under "The Com-
missioners of the Supreme Court Act, 1875," for the purpose of
administering and taking all such oaths, affidavits, and affirma-
