Local Diseases. - The number of deaths for November was 33, or a decrease of 18 on the number in October, owing
principally to a reduced mortality from diseases of the respiratory organs. Bronchitis was less prevalent in all the
boroughs during November than in October, the total number of deaths being only 6 against 16. Pleurisy, asthma, and
congestion of the lungs, to which 6 deaths were ascribed in October, were only fatal in one case during November.
The subjoined table shows the mortality for the last two months at each of these four boroughs from six principal
zymotic diseases of the miasmatic order, and also the deaths from certain inflammatory diseases of the lungs. These
causes of death have been distinguished from the others of the classes to which they belong, as being the most important
special diseases which give rise to sudden increases in the death-rates of towns, and the prevalence of which is closely
connected with sanitary condition and climatic influence of the season on health.
