Land taken for Portions of Nelson-Roundell Section, Nelson-
Greymouth Railway.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS a portion of a certain railway was proclaimed
in the New Zealand Gazette of the thirteenth day of
February, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-three,
under the name of the Nelson and Foxhill Railway (Stoke to
Foxhill), and the said railway now forms part of the Nelson to
Greymouth Railway:

And whereas the two hundred and twenty-ninth section of
"The Public Works Act, 1882," enacts that any public work
authorized under the authority of any Act repealed by this
Act, or of any Act or Ordinance repealed by "The Public
Works Act, 1876," and any land required to be taken, pur-
chased, or acquired for such work, or anything commenced
under any such authority as aforesaid, may be continued,
taken, purchased, or acquired, executed, carried out, enforced,
and completed under the provisions of this Act:

And whereas the land described in the Schedule hereto is
required for portions of the said Nelson to Greymouth
Railway:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, by virtue and in pursuance of the power
conferred upon him by the one hundred and thirtieth and two
hundred and twenty-ninth sections of "The Public Works Act,
1882," and of every other power and authority in anywise
enabling him in that behalf, doth hereby proclaim and declare
that the said land so described in the Schedule hereto is taken
for the said portions of the said railway from Nelson to Grey-
mouth.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that piece or parcel of land containing by admeasurement
2 acres and 39 perches, more or less, situate in the Survey
District of Waimea, Provincial District of Nelson, being part
of Section No. 138, Waimea, commencing at a point on the south-
western boundary of, and distant 980 links from south-eastern
corner of, Section No. 138. Bounded—Generally South-westerly,
149 links; North-westerly, 502 links; North-easterly, 24 links;
North-westerly, 998 links; North-easterly, 149 links; South-
easterly, 1006 links; South-westerly, 26 links; and South-
easterly, 494 links respectively, to starting point. The same
being more particularly delineated upon the plan marked
P.W.D. 9766, deposited in the office of the Minister for Public
Works at Wellington, in the Provincial District of Wellington.

All that piece or parcel of land containing by admeasurement
36 perches, more or less, situate in the Survey District of
Wai-iti, Provincial District of Nelson, being part of Educational
Reserve No. 147, Wai-iti District, commencing at a point on the
north-eastern boundary of, and distant 952 links from the eastern
corner of, said educational reserve. Bounded—Generally
North-easterly, 100 links; North-westerly, 229 links; South-
westerly, 100 links; and South-easterly, 229 links respectively,
to starting point. The same being more particularly delineated
upon the plan marked P.W.D. 9768, deposited in the office of
the Minister for Public Works at Wellington, in the Provincial
District of Wellington.

All that piece or parcel of land containing by admeasurement
2 acres 3 roods 34 perches, more or less, situate in the Survey
District of Waimea, Provincial District of Nelson, being part
of Sections Nos. 110 and 112, Waimea District, commencing at
a point on the north-eastern boundary of, and distant 966 links
from the eastern corner of, Section No. 110. Bounded—Generally
North-easterly, 99 links; North-westerly, 2928 links; South-
westerly, 99 links; and South-easterly, 2928 links respectively,
to starting point. The same being more particularly delineated
upon the plan marked P.W.D. 9767, deposited in the office
of the Minister for Public Works at Wellington, in the Provin-
cial District of Wellington.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William
Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in
Her Majesty's Army, Knight Grand Cross of the
Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable
Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-
Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral
of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said
Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington,
this thirty-first day of January, in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three.

Alteration of Boundaries, Ridings, and Number of Council-
lors, Counties of Wairapa East and Wairarapa West.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS under the provisions of "The Counties Act,
1876," a petition has been presented to the Governor by
the Councils of the Counties of Wairapa East and Wairarapa
West, praying him to make the alteration of boundaries therein
mentioned: And whereas it is expedient that such alteration
should be made in the manner prescribed by the said Act:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and
authority vested in him by the said Act, and of all other powers
and authorities enabling him in that behalf, and by and with
the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said
colony, doth hereby alter the boundaries of the Counties of
Wairarapa West and Wairarapa East, and doth proclaim and
declare that the boundaries set forth under the names of the
said counties in the First Schedule hereto shall, from and
after the first day of February, one thousand eight hundred
and eighty-three, be the new boundaries of the said counties
respectively; and in further pursuance and exercise of the
said powers and authorities, and with the like advice and
consent as aforesaid, the Governor doth hereby redivide
the said counties whose boundaries are altered by this
Proclamation into the several ridings mentioned and
described in the Second Schedule hereto, and doth
declare that, from and after the said first day of February,
the ridings whose names and descriptions are set forth in the
Second Schedule shall be the ridings for each of the said
counties, as more particularly mentioned in the said Schedule;
and also doth proclaim and declare that the respective
Councils of the said counties as constituted immediately
before the making of this Proclamation shall, as from
the first day of February aforesaid, be and the same are
hereby dissolved, and that the elections of new Councils for
the said counties as redefined herein shall take place on the
twenty-fourth day of February, one thousand eight hundred
and eighty-three; and in further pursuance and exercise of the
said power and authority, and by and with the like advice and
consent as aforesaid, doth determine that the number of Coun-
cillors to be elected by each of such ridings shall be the number
set forth in the Third Schedule, opposite the name of each
such riding.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

COUNTY OF WAIRARAPA WEST.

BOUNDED by a line commencing at the source of the Wainga-
wa River; thence following the centre thereof to its junction
with the Ruamahanga River; thence following the centre of
the Ruamahanga River downwards to a point where the Rua-
mahanga River is touched by the southern boundary of Section
No. 16; thence following the said southern boundary to where
it touches the Taueru River; thence following the centre of
the Taueru River upwards to the south-western corner of
Section No. 95; thence following the southern boundary of
said section and of Sections Nos. 105, 104, 103, 102; thence by
a line bearing due south (magnetic) to the northern boundary of
a section in Native occupation, and marked on the plan of the
county as Te Kahu; thence easterly and south-easterly fol-
lowing the boundary of said section to its junction with Section
No. 69; thence following the western boundary of Sections
Nos. 69 and 49 to a point 110 chains 25 links distant from
Ngatukoko; thence by a line bearing 350° 37', and distance
8240 links; thence by a line bearing 13° 34', distance 2625
links; thence by a line bearing 25° 40′, distance 3735 links;
thence by a line bearing 5° 14', distance 1950 links; thence by
a line bearing 16° 17′ to where it intersects the southern boun-
dary of Section No. 52; thence following the southern boun-
daries of Sections Nos. 52, 63, 75; thence along the eastern
boundary of Section No. 76 to the Wainuioru River; thence
following the centre of the Wainuioru River upwards to its
junction with the Kuamahunga Stream; thence following the
Kuamahunga Stream to the southern corner of Section No. 130;
thence by a line bearing 95° to where it strikes the Kaiwhata
River; thence along the centre of the Kaiwhata River to the
ocean; towards the East and South to Turakirae Head by the
ocean; towards the West by the Hutt and Manawatu Counties
to the point of commencement.

COUNTY OF WAIRARAPA EAST.

Bounded towards the South from the source of the Waingawa
River by the Wairarapa West County, as hereinbefore defined;
towards the East from the mouth of the Kaiwhata River to the
mouth of the Waimata Stream by the sea; towards the North
by the Waipawa County; and towards the West to the point
of commencement by the Manawatu County.
