Regulations for First Election of Members of the
Auckland University College Council.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this
twenty-first day of September, 1882.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE
GOVERNMENT IN COUNCIL.

BY virtue of the powers and authorities vested in
me by "The Auckland University College Act,
1882," I, James Prendergast, Chief Justice, the
Administrator of the Government of the Colony of
New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of
the Executive Council of the said colony, do hereby
order that the regulations specified in the Schedule
hereto shall be regulations under and subject to
which the first election shall be conducted of persons
to be elected to be members of the Auckland Uni-
versity College Council by the members of the
General Assembly residing in the Provincial District
of Auckland.

SCHEDULE.

  1. The Inspector-General of Schools shall be the
    Returning Officer.

  2. The Returning Officer shall forthwith send to
    every member of the General Assembly residing in
    the Provincial District of Auckland a copy of these
    regulations, and a nomination-paper in the form
    following:---

To the Returning Officer.
I, A.B., hereby nominate the under-mentioned persons as can-
didates for election to be members of the Auckland University
College Council:-

  1. C.D.

  2. E.F.

  3. G.H.
    Signed this day of , 1882. A.B.

  4. Each member of the General Assembly residing
    in the Auckland Provincial District may nominate
    three candidates, and no more.

  5. Nomination-papers, duly filled up and signed,
    may be sent to the Returning Officer at Wellington,
    and may there be received by him not later than the
    15th day of October. 182.

  6. No person shalt be eligible for election un-
    less he shall send, and the Returning Officer shall
    receive from him not later than the 15th day of
    October, 1882, his consent in writing to be nominated
    for election.

  7. On the 18th day of October, 1882, the Returning
    Officer shall send to each elector a voting-paper con-
    taining a list of all the candidates that have been duly
    nominated and have given their consent as aforesaid,
    and such voting-paper shall be in the form or to the
    effect following:---

NAMES of Candidates for Election to be Members of the
Auckland University College Council, October, 1882.
[Insert the Christian names and surnames of all the candidates,
arranged in alphabetical order.]
N.B. The voter must draw a line through the name of each
candidate for whom he desires not to vote. He must leave not

more than three names uncancelled, or the voting-paper will be
invalid.

To the Returning Officer.
I, , hereby record my vote.

Member of the General Assembly.

  1. Voting-papers, duly filled up and signed, may
    be sent to the Returning Officer at Wellington, and
    may there be received by him not later than the 7th
    day of November, on which day he shall proceed to
    ascertain the number of votes duly recorded for each
    candidate.

The three candidates that have then received the
highest, number of votes shall be elected. If by
reason of an equality of votes given for two or more
candidates the election is not complete, the Governor
shall choose between the candidates that have equal
numbers of votes, and his choice, signified to the
Returning Officer, shall determine which of them
shall be elected. The Returning Officer shall forth-
with, after the election, notify in the New Zealand
Gazette the names of the persons elected.

If any dispute or difference shall arise in respect
of such election the same shall be determined by the
Governor, by writing under his hand, a copy whereof
shall be published in the New Zealand Gazette.

Validating the Valuation Roll of the Longbeach Road
District, County of Ashburton.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this
twenty-first day of September, 1882.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE
GOVERNMENT IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS a sitting of the Assessment Court for
the Longbeach Road District was appointed
to be held on the twenty-seventh day of February,
one thousand eight hundred and eighty-two, and
the Judge of the Assessment Court being unable,
through illness, to attend thereat, the Court has
been adjourned from day to day, but no sitting of
the said Court has been held as required by "The
Rating Act, 1876," to hear and determine objections
to the valuation list of the said Longbeach Road
District: And whereas it has been made to appear
that no objections were made or desired to be made
to the said valuation list, and that the Judge of the
Assessment Court has signed the said list, and it is
expedient to validate the same:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Administrator
of the Government of the Colony of New Zealand,
by and with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the said colony, in exercise of the
powers vested in him by the eighteenth section
of "The Rating Act, 1876," and of all other powers
in any wise enabling him in that behalf, doth hereby
validate the above-mentioned things which have been
irregularly done in matter of form with respect to
the revision and making of the valuation roll of the
said Longbeach Road District, and, so far as he law-
fully can or may, doth hereby validate the said roll.
