SCHEDULE.

APPLICANT: George Charles Bowman. Style under
which it is intended to conduct the business: "The
New Holland Gold-Mining Company." 16 acres 2
roods, bounded on the East by Maori Gully, and on
all other sides by Crown land, Maori Gully, Inanga-
hua, in the Nelson South-West Mining District.

Applicant: Timothy McLaughlin. Style under
which it is intended to conduct the business: "Sum-
mer Hill Gold-Mining Company." 16 acres 2 roods,
bounded on the East by Nathan's Gully, North and
South by Crown land, Soldier's Gully, Inangahua,
in the Nelson South-West Mining District.

Given under my hand, at Nelson, this twenty-
sixth day of August, one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-two.

Te Makarini Scholarships.

THREE scholarships, to be held at the Native
College, Te Aute, Hawke's Bay, are offered by
the Trustees of the fund instituted in memory of the
late Sir Donald McLean for promoting the higher
education of Maori youths.

Two of these scholarships are open to any Maori
or half-caste whose age on the 30th November, 1882,
shall not exceed fifteen years, and who shall have
attended a Native college or school for the preceding
twelve months. The remaining scholarship is open
to any Maori or half-caste whose age on the 30th
November, 1882, shall not exceed thirteen years, and
who shall have attended a Native village school for
the preceding twelve months.

The scholarships are of the annual value of £35,
and are tenable for two years from the 1st January,
1883.

The examination will be held at convenient centres
on the 18th and 19th December, 1882. Candidates
must, either directly or through their teachers, send
notice to the Inspector of Native Schools, Education
Department, Wellington, of their intention to pre-
sent themselves for examination. Such notice must
be posted not later than the 31st October.

Copies of the regulations and forms of notice may
be obtained from teachers of Native schools and
boarding institutions, the Secretaries to Education
Boards, or the Secretary to the Education Depart-
ment.

Gold-Mining Lease to be granted.

IN conformity with the thirty-seventh section of
"The Mines Act, 1877," and with the regula-
tions made under that Act for the granting of leases
for gold-mining purposes, it is hereby notified that it
is intended to grant a lease of Crown lands for gold-
mining purposes to the applicants specified in the
annexed Schedule, unless there shall be valid objec-
tions against such lease.

Objections to the granting of such lease, stating
the grounds of objection, must be made in writing,
and lodged 'with the Warden at Nelson on or
before the 19th day of September, 1882.

Copy of the application made and plan annexed
may be seen at the Warden's Office at Nelson.

and Thomas John Clavering. Style under which it
is intended to conduct the business: "Southern Star
Quartz-Mining Company." 16 acres 2 roods, south of
the Natal Company, Bulmer Creek, Owen River, in
the Nelson South-West Mining District.

Given under my hand, at Nelson, this twenty-
sixth day of August, one thousand, eight
hundred and eighty-two.

Gold Fields Notices.

Gold-Mining Lease cancelled.

Mines Department,
Wellington, 25th August, 1882.

IT is hereby notified that His Excellency the
Administrator of the Government has been
pleased to pronounce the under-mentioned gold-
mining lease cancelled, and that the ground is now
open for application as if no lease of the said ground
had ever been applied for:—

Sew Hoy; 6 acres, Section 26, Block XII., Skip-
per's Creek District, Otago Gold Fields. No. 340c.
