A PROCLAMATION.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and
authorities vested in me by "The Mines Act,
1877," I, James Prendergast, the Administrator of
the Government of the Colony of New Zealand, do
hereby proclaim and declare that the parcel of land
described in the Schedule hereto is hereby exempted
from occupation for mining purposes, or for water
races, dams, or reservoirs, or for machine, business,
or residence sites.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that parcel of land within the Orepuki and
Longwood Mining District, being Section 3, Block
VII., Longwood District, containing 1 acre, more
or less.
Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
James Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice,
the Administrator of the Government of
Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand
and its Dependencies; and issued under
the Seal of the said Colony, at the
Government House, at Wellington, this
thirteenth day of December, in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and eighty-two.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the twenty-fourth section of "The
Land Act, 1877," it is enacted that the Go-
vernor, by Proclamation in the Gazette, may from
time to time establish, and define, abolish, alter, or
reconstitute local districts for the sale or disposal of
land, and in like manner from time to time may
appoint Land Officers or other persons for con-
ducting sales of land in such local districts, and for
receiving applications for the sale, letting, disposal,
or occupation of Crown lands, and for generally
carrying into effect the provisions of the said Act:
Now, therefore, I, James Prendergast, the Admin-
istrator of the Government of the Colony of New
Zealand, do hereby appoint
JOHN SMITH HICKSON
to be a Land Officer for conducting sales of land, and
for receiving applications for the sale, letting, and
disposal or occupation of Crown lands, and for gene-
rally carrying into effect the provisions of the said
Act within the Naseby Local Land District, as esta-
blished by Proclamation under the hand of His
Excellency the Governor, dated the sixteenth day of
January, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
eight.
Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir

Railway (Branch Line from Rolleston to Springfield

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by a Proclamation issued under the
authority of sections one hundred and twenty-
two, one hundred and twenty-three, and one hundred
and twenty-four of "The Public Works Act, 1876,"
the middle line of a portion of the branch line of
railway from Rolleston to Springfield Colliery, from
the main line, Hurunui to Waitaki Railway (Spring-
field Section), being one of the railways specified in
"The Public Works Act, 1879," was defined: And
whereas pursuant to the one hundred and twenty-
fifth section of "The Public Works Act, 1876," the
Minister for Public Works has caused to be made
and, on the third day of February, one thousand
eight hundred and eighty, to be deposited in the
office of the Registrar of the Supreme Court at
Christchurch, in the Provincial District of Canter-
bury, such maps and plans as were necessary to
explain the said portion of the aforesaid line of rail-
way and the land through which the same passes,
and such maps and plans were referred to in such
Proclamation as aforesaid: And whereas "The
Public Works Act, 1879," enacts that such of the
railways mentioned therein as are unfinished may be
completed under the provisions of "The Public Works
Act, 1876," "The Public Works Act 1876 Amend-
ment Act, 1878," and "The Public Works Act,
1879:" And whereas the two hundred and twenty-
ninth section of "The Public Works Act, 1882,"
enacts as follows: Any public work authorized
under the authority of any Act repealed by this Act,
or of any Act or Ordinance repealed by "The Public
Works Act, 1876," and any land required to be taken,
purchased, or acquired for such work, or anything
commenced under any such authority as aforesaid,
may be continued, taken, purchased, or acquired,
executed, carried out, enforced, and completed under
the provisions of this Act: And whereas the land
described in the Schedule hereto is required to be
taken for the said portion of the branch line of rail-
way from Rolleston to Springfield Colliery (Hurunui-
Waitaki Railway):
Now, therefore, I, James Prendergast, the Admin-
istrator of the Government of the Colony of New
Zealand, in exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred by sections one hundred and thirty and
two hundred and twenty-nine of "The Public Works
Act, 1882," and of every other power and authority
in anywise enabling me in that behalf, do hereby
proclaim and declare that the land described in the
Schedule hereto is taken for the said portion of the
said branch line of railway.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that piece or parcel of land containing by
admeasurement 1 rood 85 perches, being portion of
Section No. 14536, commencing at a point on the
north-eastern boundary of the West Coast Road
1982 links distant from the south-easternmost corner.
