NOTICE OF INTENTION TO CONSTRUCT A WATER-
RACE.
To the Mining Registrar at Cromwell of the Crom-
well Division of the Dunstan Mining District, and
all other persons whom it may concern.

TAKE notice that it is intended to construct a 393
Water-race and divert water for irrigation and
all other purposes contemplated in section 31 of "The
Mines Act, 1877," commencing at a point (marked)
in the Five-Mile Creek, near Cromwell, below the
other races therefrom, and terminating on the sandy
flat above the Lowburn at Perriam's.

The length of such race will be one and a half miles
or thereabouts; the mean depth and breadth 1 foot
by 3 feet.

It is proposed to carry the whole of the surplus
water (after service of pre-existing rights), say four
heads.

It is further intended to construct a reservoir in
connection therewith on the upper sandy terrace
above Lowburn Creek.

The time required for construction of said race and
reservoir will be four months.

Dated at Cromwell, this 19th day of May, 1881.

Gas, and the Apparatus and Method therein
employed.

JOHN DIXON, of 266, Church Street, Richmond, in
the County of Bourke, in the Colony of Victoria, but
at present also of 15, Water Street, Liverpool, in the
County of Lancaster, in England, Gas Engineer, has
deposited at this office a specification of the said
invention, and I have appointed Friday, the 16th
day of September next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon,
at this office, to hear the said application and all
objections thereto; and I require all persons having

PATENT NOTICE.

TO all whom it may concern.—Public notice is
hereby given that, on the twenty-third day of
March, one thousand eight hundred and eighty,
Letters Patent were issued by His Excellency Sir
Hercules Robinson, then Governor of New Zealand,
to WILLIAM ANDERSON EWING, for the manufacture
of a certain cement to be called "The New Zealand
Cement," and to be made from a calcareous sand-
stone of the Oamaru, Waipara, and Pareora formations,
found in various parts of the Colony of New Zealand,
in the manner therein described. And the public is
hereby warned against infringing the said letters
patent by making cement out of the said materials or
formations, as legal proceedings will at once be
taken against any persons so doing.

Dated this eighteenth day of May, one thousand
eight hundred and eighty-one.

Prevention of Smoke, and in the Apparatus or
Mechanism employed therefor.

GEORGE FRASER, of Auckland, Engineer, has
deposited at this office a specification of the said
invention, and I have appointed Friday, the 5th day
of August next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at
this office, to hear the said application and all objec-
tions thereto; and I require all persons having an
interest in opposing the grant of such Letters Patent
to leave, on or before the 1st day of August next, at
this office, particulars in writing of their objections
to the said application, otherwise they will be pre-

meeting of Shareholders in the above Com-
pany, held at Morton's Hotel, Christchurch, on Mon-

special resolutions were duly confirmed:—
