Longbeach Road District, County of Ashburton, divided
into Five Subdivisions.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by section nine of "The Canterbury
Road Ordinance, 1872," it is enacted that, at
any time after the first ordinary annual election or
general election, as the case may be, of the Board for
any district, the Superintendent may, if he shall have
received a petition to that effect from the Board of
the said district, or from one-fourth or more of the
number of persons liable to be rated under the said
recited Ordinance in respect of rateable property in
the said district, may, by Proclamation, within three
months after the receipt of the same, divide the dis-
trict into two or more separate subdivisions, by such
names as shall by such Proclamation be assigned to
the same, and in and by such Proclamation the boun-
daries of the subdivisions shall be set forth; provided
that no such division shall be made within three
months before the day appointed for holding the
annual election of members of the Board in or for
such district: And whereas by virtue of "The
Abolition of Provinces Act, 1875," the powers, duties,
and functions by the said Ordinance vested in the
Superintendent are now vested in the Governor:
And whereas on the second day of May, one thousand
eight hundred and eighty-one, a petition from the
Board of the Longbeach Road District was received
by His Excellency the Governor praying that such
district should be divided into the five separate
subdivisions described in the Schedule hereto: And
whereas all things have been done, performed, and
happened to authorize the issue of this Proclama-
tion:
Now, therefore, I, Arthur Hamilton Gordon, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise
and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested
in me by the said in part recited Ordinance and Act,
do hereby divide the Longbeach Road District into
five subdivisions, with the names and boundaries
described in the First Schedule hereto.
And I do further proclaim and declare that the
number of members to be elected for each of such
subdivisions shall be one member for each subdi-
vision, and do severally assign the members of the
Road Board of the said district now in office to the
said subdivisions in the manner set forth in the
Second Schedule hereto.
FIRST SCHEDULE.
No. 1 WARD: Bounded on the North-west by the
Great Southern Railway; on the South-west by the
Hinds River; on the South-east by Boundary Road;
and on the North-east by the Ashburton River.
No. 2 Ward: Bounded on the North-west by part
of No. 1 Ward; on the West and South-west by
Longbeach Road, Bell's Road, Dawson's Road,
Waterton New Road, Waterton Main Road, Moore's
Road, Lowerbeach Road, and the division-lines
between Rural Sections Nos. 20578 and 20430,
20962 and 20439, to the sea; on the South-east by
the sea; and on the North-east by the Ashburton
River.
No. 3 Ward: Bounded on the North-west by part
of No. 1 Ward; on the South-west and West by the
Hinds River as far as Surveyor's Road, and from
thence to the sea by the boundary drain and fence
between the Longbeach and Lowcliff estates; on the
South-east by the sea; and on the North-east and
East by No. 2 Ward.
No. 4 Ward: Bounded on the North-west by the
Great Southern Railway; on the West and South-
west by Coldstream Road, Pye's Road, Brogden's
Road, and a line through Rural Section No. 13812 in
continuation of and from Brogden's Road to the sea ;
on the South-east by the sea; and on the East and
North-east by Nos. 3 and 1 Wards.
No. 5 Ward: Bounded on the North by the Great
Southern Railway-line as made; on the South-west
by the Rangitata River; on the South-east by the
sea; and on the North-east and East by No. 4
Ward.

Admiral of the same; and issued under
the Seal of the said Colony, at the

A PROCLAMATION.
IN pursuance of the powers and authorities vested
in me by the third section of "The Dog Regis-
tration Act, 1880," I, Arthur Hamilton Gordon, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby
proclaim and declare that the County of Bay of
Islands shall be excluded from the operation of the
said Act.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Honorable Arthur Hamilton Gordon,

tinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George, Her Majesty's High
