Otago and Southland District assigned to the Chief
Justice.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this
thirty-first day of May, 1881.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by "The Supreme Court Act, 1860,"
it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the
Governor in Council from time to time to divide the
colony into judicial districts for the purposes of the
said Act, and the limits of such districts from time to
time to alter as occasion may require, and that the
Governor in Council shall assign every such district
to a Judge or Judges of the Supreme Court, who
shall have, within the same, all the powers and juris-
diction thereby given to the said Court:
And whereas "The Otago and Southland District,"
as defined by an Order in Council dated the twenty-
third day of April, one thousand eight hundred and
sixty-three, and published in the New Zealand Gazette
dated the twenty-seventh day of April, one thousand
eight hundred and sixty-three, has been assigned to
Joshua Strange Williams, Esquire, and to Thomas
Bannatyne Gillies, Esquire, Judges of the said Court:
And whereas it is expedient that the said Otago
and Southland District should also be assigned to
Sir James Prendergast, the Chief Justice of the said
Court:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor, in
pursuance and exercise of all powers enabling him in
this behalf, doth hereby, with the advice and consent
of the Executive Council of New Zealand, assign the
said Otago and Southland District unto
Sir JAMES PRENDERGAST,
the Chief Justice of the said Court.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this
thirty-first day of May, 1881.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by an Order in Council bearing date
the fifth day of October, one thousand eight
hundred and eighty, made and issued under the
authority of "The Public Domains Act, 1860,"
"The Public Domains Act, 1865," and "The Public
Reserves Act, 1877," certain powers were, in respect
of certain lands referred to in a further Order in
Council of the same date, made and issued under
"The Public Reserves Act, 1877," aforesaid, dele-
gated to James Nelson Williams, William Birch,
Cecil Augustus Fitzroy, Charles Bassell Winter, and
John Commons MeVay:
Now, therefore, I, Arthur Hamilton Gordon,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by
virtue and exercise of the powers and authorities
vested in me by "The Public Domains Act, 1860,"
aforesaid, and by and with the advice of the Execu-
tive Council of the said colony, do hereby revoke the
Order in Council delegating the Governor's powers
to the above-named persons; and do hereby further
delegate, in respect of the lands referred to in the
aforesaid Orders in Council, all the powers conferred
by "The Public Domains Act, 1860," except the
powers under or conferred by subsections five and
ten of section five, and section eleven, to the under-
mentioned persons, who shall be known as the
Meanee Domain Board:—
JAMES NELSON WILLIAMS,
WILLIAM BIRCH,
CECIL AUGUSTUS FITZROY,
CHARLES BASSELL WINTER,
JOHN COMMONS MCVAY, and
JOHN HELIER VAUTIER
(herein referred to as "the Board"), subject to the
stipulations hereinafter contained, that is to say, —

The Board shall meet for the transaction of
business on the first Monday in each month, at two
o'clock p.m., at the Provincial Council Chambers,
Napier, or at such other time or place as may from
time to time be fixed by the Board. The first
meeting shall be held on Monday, the fourth day of
July, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-one. -
Special meetings may be convened by the Chair-
man, or by any two members of the Board, provided
that two days' notice of such meeting be given to
each member, specifying the business to be trans-
acted at such special meeting, and no other business
than that so specified shall be transacted at such
meeting. -
Any three of the said Board shall form a
quorum. Any meeting may be adjourned from time
to time. -
The members of the Board shall, at their first
meeting, and thereafter at an annual meeting to be
held on the first Monday in February in every suc-
ceeding year thereafter, elect one of themselves to
be Chairman, who may join in the discussion, and
shall have an original as well as a casting vote. The
Chairman shall hold office until the election of his
successor. -
If at any meeting the Chairman is not present
at the time appointed for holding the same, the mem-
bers present shall choose some one of their number
to be Chairman of such meeting. -
If, by resignation, death, or incapacity, or other-
wise, the office of Chairman shall be or become
vacant, the members may at any monthly or special
meeting appoint a Chairman. -
All questions shall be determined by the ma-
jority of votes of the members of the Board present
at a meeting.

Making Provision for Election of Mayor of Borough
of Queenstown.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this
thirty-first day of May, 1881.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS on the twenty-fourth day of Novem-
ber, one thousand eight hundred and eighty,
one Frederick Henry Daniel was, after a poll of the
burgesses of the Borough of Queenstown, declared to
be duly elected as Mayor of the said borough: And
whereas, in accordance with the provisions of "The
Regulation of Local Elections Act, 1876," the said
election was, on the eighteenth day of January, one
thousand eight hundred and eighty-one, declared by
the Resident Magistrate holding inquiry as by the said
Act provided to be void: And whereas, therefore,
from such said eighteenth day of January, one thousand
eight hundred and eighty-one, there was an extra-
ordinary vacancy in the said office of Mayor within
the meaning of the forty-sixth section of the said Act:
