male and female, above six months of age; and the
words "small cattle" mean any sheep, male and
female, and the weaned offspring thereof, and pigs,
male and female, above three months of age; and the
word "cattle" shall include great and small cattle.

The word "brand" means a brand registered
under the provisions of "The Brands and Branding
Act, 1880," or of any other law relating to the regis-
tration of brands.

The word "Board" means the Land Board of the
Westland Land District.

The word "Commissioner" means the Commis-
sioner of Crown Lands for the Westland Land Dis-
trict.

  1. Licenses, to be called "cattle licenses," may be
    issued from time to time by the Commissioner on
    being authorized so to do by the Board; and the
    holder of a cattle license shall be authorized, within
    such portion of the forests as shall be mentioned
    therein, to depasture so many cattle and of such
    kinds as shall be named in such license; and every
    cattle license shall expire on the 31st December next
    after its date, but may be authorized to be granted
    at any meeting of the Board.

  2. The terms and conditions of such cattle license
    shall be as follows:—

(1.) The licensee shall pay for the same fees, for
the number of cattle he is thereby authorized to de-
pasture, at the rate mentioned in Schedule I. hereto,
and such payment shall be made in advance on the
granting of the said license.

(2.) The license shall be revocable at any time
immediately upon notice in writing from the Com-
missioner, served on the licensee personally, or posted
to his last known address.

(3.) The license shall become ipso facto revoked if
the licensee shall suffer any other cattle than those
specified in the license to depasture on the forests
mentioned therein.

  1. Applications for cattle licenses may be made at
    the Principal Land Office at Hokitika, or at any local
    land office, or at any Warden's or Resident Magis-
    trate's office, or at any place that may from time to
    time be appointed by the Board, and shall be in the
    form mentioned in Schedule II. hereto.

  2. The persons mentioned in Schedule III. hereto
    shall be entitled to a cattle license, free of charge,
    for the number of cattle mentioned opposite their
    names on the said Second Schedule.

  3. Every applicant for a cattle license must deposit
    at the office at which his application is made a copy
    of his brand.

  4. No person, unless he shall be otherwise lawfully
    authorized, shall cut, destroy, or damage any timber
    on forest lands without having obtained from the
    Commissioner a timber license under these regula-
    tions; and any person who shall offend against the
    provisions of this regulation shall, upon conviction,
    be liable to a penalty not exceeding £20.

  5. Licenses, to be called timber licenses, may be
    issued from time to time by the Commissioner when
    authorized so to do by the Board; and the holder of
    a timber license shall be authorized to cut and remove
    timber upon that portion of the forests mentioned in
    such license.

  6. Timber licenses may be granted for any number
    of months next ensuing their date not exceeding
    twelve months, but may be issued at any time.

  7. Applications for timber licenses may be made
    in the same manner as applications for cattle licenses,
    and the form thereof shall be as specified in Schedule
    IV. hereto.

  8. Any person, whether holding a timber license
    or not, who shall commit any wilful or wanton waste,
    or destruction of trees or timber, shall be liable, upon
    conviction, to a penalty not exceeding £20.

  9. The fees to be paid for timber licenses shall be
    those mentioned in Schedule V. hereto.

SCHEDULE I.
FEES FOR CATTLE LICENSES.

For every cattle license 1s., in addition to the sum of 2s. 6d.
for every head of great cattle, and 1s. for every head of small
cattle permitted to be depastured by such license.

SCHEDULE II.
FORM OF APPLICATION FOR CATTLE LICENSE.

To the Commissioner of Crown Lands for the Westland
Land District.

I, , of , beg to apply for a cattle license over
for head of cattle, the particulars and brands
of which are specified at foot hereof.

SCHEDULE III.
PERSONS ENTITLED TO CATTLE LICENSE FREE OF CHARGE.

The holder of a miner's right or busi-
ness license ... 1 head of great cattle.

The holder of an agricultural-lease or
deferred-payment allotment of 25
acres ... 2 head of great cattle.
For each additional 25 acres ... 1 head of great cattle.

The holder of a homestead selection of
50 acres ... 2 head of great cattle.
For each additional holder of a selection
in the same household ... 1 head of great cattle.

SCHEDULE IV.
FORM OF APPLICATION FOR TIMBER LICENSE.

To the Commissioner of Crown Lands for the Westland Land
District.

Changing the Purpose of a Reserve.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this
twenty-second day of February, 1881.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

W HEREAS the land mentioned in the first
column of the Schedule hereto is one of the
reserves granted to the Superintendent of the Pro-
vince of Wellington for a cemetery:

And whereas the said reserve is for one of the
purposes named in Part I. of the Schedule to "The
Public Reserves Act Amendment Act, 1878," and,
in the opinion of His Excellency the Governor, it is
expedient to change the purpose of such reserve to
another of the purposes named in the said Part I.,
as hereinafter mentioned:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of
the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice
and consent of the Executive Council of the said
colony, and in exercise of the powers and authorities
vested in him by the sixth section of "The
Public Reserves Act Amendment Act, 1878," doth
hereby order and direct that the purpose of the
reserve mentioned in the first column of the said
Schedule hereto shall be changed from that of a
reserve for a cemetery, and doth hereby declare and
