SIR,-In accordance with the provisions of section
145 of "The Municipal Corporations Act, 1876," I
beg to inform you that, at the poll taken on the 15th
instant in connection with the proposal to raise a
special loan of £2,000 for waterworks purposes,
73 votes were recorded in favour of the proposal,
16 votes against it, and
2 votes were informal.

The number of votes for the proposal being more
than one-half the total number of burgesses (126),
as required by section 10, Amendment Act, 1880, I
have declared the proposal carried.

Description of Trade Mark.

A block upon which is depicted in rustic design an
open shed, shingle-roofed, with purple and white
grapevines twining about and on it. Immediately
under the roof are the words "Prepared by," "Trade
Mark," "Prepared by," and below that the façade of
a building, with shop front and horse standing before
it. Then below, in a line across, is the name "William
Davies & Co.," and below that again, on blue
ground, the legend "Australian Fruit Salt or Grape
Powder 2/6, effervescing, refreshing, agreeable, and
invigorating," and, in blue colours on white ground
underneath, "Manufactory, Queen's Place, Sydney."
The block is surrounded by a yellow border.

Nature of the Article to which it is intended such
Trade Mark shall apply.

An article of commerce known as Australian fruit
salt or grape powder.

NOTICE is hereby given that EDWARD PEARCE,
of the City of Wellington, in the Colony of
New Zealand, Merchant, has applied, on behalf of
JOHN C. GOSTLING AND COMPANY, of London,
Cement Manufacturers, to register, under "The
Trade Marks Act, 1866," the trade mark of which
the following is a description, viz. :-

Description of Trade Mark.

In the centre of a circular paper is a globe with
black meridian and zonal lines, and continents and
islands printed in red. Across the globe runs a
black band, on which the word "Gostling" appears
in white letters. Around the globe are the words
"Portland Cement," in large capital white letters
with black outline, printed on a red ground; also the
words "Established 1869," in smaller black capital
letters and figures. Above these last words, and
below the globe, is a white figure with black outline,
resembling three circles one above another, with
wings attached to the middle circle. The above are
then surrounded by a narrow black circle, and that
by a narrow white one. Again, outside these is
printed in large red capital letters on a black ground
the words "John C. Gostling & Co., London." On
each side of the word "London" is a figure formed
of two triangles superposed so as to form a six-
pointed star. Outside the black ground last referred
to is a narrow white circle, and outside all a rather
broader black circle.

HARRIS, of Bouleott Street, in the City of
Wellington, in the Colony of New Zealand, Journalist,
has applied, on behalf of WILLIAM DAVIES and JAMES
CHANNON, of Queen's Place, Sydney, New South
Wales, trading under the name or style of: "William
Davies and Co.," to register, under "The Trade
Marks Act, 1866," the trade mark of which the
following is a description:-

Bonuses on Colonial Industries.

Wellington, 18th May, 1881.

NOTICE is hereby given that the following bonuses
will be paid on articles produced in the Colony
of New Zealand, as under:—

SUGAR.

A bonus of one thousand pounds (£1,000) will be
given for the production of the first 125 tons of sugar,
manufactured in New Zealand, from beet or any
other root or plant grown in the colony.

LINSEED OIL.

A bonus of five hundred pounds (£500) will be
given for the production, by machinery permanently
established in New Zealand, of the first ten thousand
(10,000) gallons of oil, of good marketable quality,
from linseed grown in the colony.

OIL CAKE.

A bonus of one hundred pounds (£100) will be
given for the production of the first fifty tons of oil
cake, of good marketable quality, from linseed grown
in the colony.

STARCH.

A bonus of three hundred pounds (£300) will be
given on the first fifty tons of starch, manufactured
in the colony, which shall be shipped to an English
market, and for which a satisfactory certificate shall
be given by dealers or brokers in England that the
starch is of good marketable quality.

SILK.

A bonus of fifty per cent. on the value realized
for the first thousand pounds' (£1,000) worth of
cocoons of the silkworm, or silkworms' eggs, pro-
duced in the colony, to be paid on quantities of not
less value than fifty pounds (£50) nor more than
one hundred pounds (£100) produced by any one
person.

SULPHURIC ACID.

A bonus of five hundred pounds (£500) per
annum will be given for three years in succession
for the production each year, by machinery esta-
blished in New Zealand, of not less than fifty tons
of sulphuric acid, of good marketable quality. The
producer to the satisfaction of the Colonial Secretary
of the first fifty tons shall be also entitled to the
payments of the two following years if he fulfils the
conditions.
