the Governor, the following promotions and appoint-
ments have been made in the Customs Department:—
JOHN BORRIE, Landing Surveyor, Dunedin, to be
Collector at the Port of Invercargill. Appoint-
ment to date from the 1st October, 1880.
CHARLES WILFRED SEYMOUR CHAMBERLAIN,
Landing Waiter and Examining Officer, Wel-
lington, to be Landing Surveyor at the Port of
Dunedin.

the abbreviated word "Mass." (meaning Massa-
