THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.
PORT ALBERT LIGHT.—ALTERATION IN CHARACTER.
MASTERS of vessels and others are hereby informed
that, on and after the 15th May next, the colour of
the Port Albert fixed and flashing light will be altered
from white to red.

THE following Notice to Mariners, received from
the Portmaster, Brisbane, is published for
general information.

SOUTH PASSAGE, MORETON BAY.
ON and after Monday, the 26th instant, the
following tidal signals to vessels entering will be
exhibited from the yard-arms of the flagstaff at the
Signal Station, showing the depths of water on the
inner bar or Rous Channel :—

10 6 Ball at north yard-arm, dipped.
11 0 Ball at south yard-arm.
11 6 Ball at south yard-arm, dipped.
12 0 Two balls at north yard-arm.

13 0 Two balls at south yard-arm.
13 6 Two balls at south yard-arm, dipped.
14 0 Ball at each yard-arm.

15 0 Flag over ball, north yard-arm.

16 0 Flag over ball, south yard-arm.

During flood tide a red burgee will be hoisted at
the masthead. These signals are the same as those
used at Endeavour River, and published in Pugh's
Almanac.

the Portmaster, Brisbane, is published for
general information.

REPORTED REEF, TORRES STRAITS.
THE master of the Queensland Government schooner
"Pearl" reports the existence of a dangerous reef in
the following position, viz.: Lat. 9° 32′ S., long. 142°
37′ 30″ E. Mount Cornwallis bearing N.W. ½ N.;
Brothers Peak, S. by E.; West extreme Saibai
Island, N. by W. ¼ W.
The reef extends east and west, is about three-
quarters of a mile in length and 200 yards in width,
and is awash at low water.

DREDGING OPERATIONS, LYTTELTON HARBOUR.

THE following notice respecting dredging opera-
tions, Lyttelton Harbour, which has been
received from the Lyttelton Harbour Board, is pub-
lished for general information.

CAUTION.—DREDGING OPERATIONS, HARBOUR OF
LYTTELTON.
DURING the dredging operations now in hand in the
fairway at the entrance of the inner harbour, be-
tween the two moles, the masters of all vessels are
cautioned to take the entrance to the eastward of
the dredge and her buoys.
The dredge's south-west bower anchor will be laid
down about 600 feet outside the moles, and will be
buoyed with a large red buoy. The dredge's side
moorings will be similarly buoyed.
Masters of all vessels are hereby cautioned against
going near or over the dredge moorings, and all
steamers are required to slow their engines to less
than half-speed for at least 100 yards before arriving
abreast of the dredge, in accordance with the New
Zealand Harbour Regulations (No. 102).
This notification to take effect from and after the
20th May, 1880, and to remain in force until revised
or altered.
Masters of all vessels are cautioned against enter-
ing between the moles at night.
Vessels must not anchor with the inner harbour
lighthouse, on the eastern breakwater, bearing any-
thing to the northward of north-west.
Clause 30 of the New Zealand Harbour Regula-
tions will be strictly enforced.

THE following Notices to Mariners, received from
the Marine Board, Port Adelaide, are published
for general information.

SHOAL, SPENCER GULF.
PURSUANT to a notice (No. 5 of 1879) issued from
this office on the 14th May, 1879, mariners are now
hereby informed that a large cheese-shaped buoy,
surmounted by pyramidal frame and lattice-work,
with globe on top, has been placed on the shoal in
question in 4 fathoms at low-water spring tides.
The buoy is painted red and black alternately, and
its position approximately is lat. 33° 16′ S., and
long. 137° 36′ 30″ E.

KINGSTON, LACEPEDE BAY.
NOTICE is hereby given that, on and after the night
of the 15th July, 1880, a bright fixed light of the
sixth order will be exhibited from the sea-end of the
new Iron Pile Jetty at Kingston.
