vincial District of Hawke's Bay aforesaid; the total
length being 42 chains or thereabouts.

Defining the Middle Line of Portion of the Railway
from Wellington to Napier (between 69 miles 70
chains and 85 miles 34 chains from Napier).

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS the railway from Wellington to
Napier is one of the railways specified in the
First Schedule to “The Public Works Act, 1879,”
and which Act is therein declared to be a special
Act authorizing the construction of such railway;
and the same is unfinished, and it has been deter-
mined to construct and maintain a further portion
of such railway:
Now, therefore, I, Hercules George Robert Robin-
son, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in
exercise and in pursuance of the powers and authori-
ties conferred on me by sections one hundred and
twenty-two, one hundred and twenty-three, one
hundred and twenty-four, and one hundred and
twenty-five of “The Public Works Act, 1876,” and
in exercise of every other power and authority
enabling me in that behalf, do hereby proclaim and
declare that the middle line of the said portion of
the said railway shall be from a point situate in the
Manawatu number seven Block, at the Makatoko
Station, to a point in Tahoraiti Block number two, all
within the County of Waipawa, Provincial District of
Hawke’s Bay, Colony of New Zealand, as defined and
set forth in the Schedule hereto. The said middle
line and the land through which the same passes are
set forth in the map and plan marked P.W.D. 7451,
and authenticated for the purposes of this Proclama-
tion by the signature of the Honorable Richard
Oliver, Minister for Public Works, and which said
map and plan is deposited in the office of the Regis-
trar of the Supreme Court at Napier, in the Provin-
cial District of Hawke’s Bay.
SCHEDULE.
COMMENCING at a point in the Manawatu No. 7
Block, at the Makatoko Station, about 69 miles 70
chains from Napier, on the railway from Napier to the
junction with the railway from New Plymouth to
Waitara at Sentry Hill, passing by Pakipaki, Wai-
pawa, Waipukurau, Takapau, &c., the said point
being the termination of a portion of the said railway,
as described in the Proclamation dated the 23rd
November, 1877, and published in the New Zealand
Gazette No. 96, of the 29th November, 1877; and
proceeding thence in a generally south-westerly
direction for a distance of 15 miles 44 chains, and
terminating at a point at 85 miles 34 chains from
Napier, in Tahoraiti Block No. 2; passing in,
through, or over the following lands, &c.: Raikaiatai,
Manawatu No. 3 (Te Ohu), Manawatu No. 4B
(Otanga), Manawatu No. 4 (Tiratu), Manawatu
No. 4A (Tipapakuku), and Tahoraiti No. 2 Blocks,
and all adjoining and intervening lands, roads, re-
serves, streams, rivers, and watercourses; all within
the County of Waipawa, Colony of New Zealand;
in the manner delineated on the plan marked P.W.D.

WHEREAS the railway from the Hurunui River
to the Waitaki River, passing by Amberley,
Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Christchurch, Ashburton, and
Timaru, is one of the railways specified in the First
Schedule to “The Public Works Act, 1879,” and
which Act is therein declared to be a special Act,
authorizing the construction of such railway; and
the same is unfinished, and it has been determined
to construct and maintain a further portion of such
railway:
Now, therefore, I, Hercules George Robert Robin-
son, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in
exercise and in pursuance of the powers and au-
thorities conferred on me by sections one hundred
and twenty-two, one hundred and twenty-three, one
hundred and twenty-four, and one hundred and
twenty-five of “The Public Works Act, 1876,” and
in exercise of every other power and authority
enabling me in that behalf, do hereby proclaim and
declare that the middle line of the said portion of
the said railway shall be from a point situate in Coal
Reserve numbered two hundred and seventy-four,
distant about one hundred and thirty links south-
easterly from the northern boundary of said reserve
to a point in said Coal Reserve numbered two hun-
dred and seventy-four, distant about four chains
north-westerly from the intersection of the Grey-
mouth to Reefton Road, all within the County of
Grey, Provincial District of Westland, Colony of
New Zealand, as defined and set forth in the Sche-
dule hereto. The said middle line and the land
through which the same passes are set forth in the
map and plan marked P.W.D. 7446, and authen-
ticated for the purposes of this Proclamation by
the signature of the Honorable Richard Oliver,
Minister for Public Works, and which said map and
plan is deposited in the office of the Registrar of
the Supreme Court at Hokitika, in the Provincial
District of Westland.
