Sandon and Carnarvon Highway District, County of
Manawatu, constituted.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by section seven of an Ordinance of
the Province of Wellington intituled "The
Highways Act, 1874," it it enacted that the Super-
intendent may from time to time, by Proclamation in
the Government Gazette, divide any district or dis-
tricts into two or more new districts, and the same in
like manner from time to time to subdivide, alter, or
reunite: and whereas the powers, duties, and func-
tions vested in the Superintendent by the said
Ordinance are, by "The Abolition of Provinces Act,
1875," now vested in the Governor: And whereas all
things have happened and been performed to entitle
the Governor to issue this Proclamation:

Now, therefore, I, James Prendergast, Chief Jus-
tice of the Colony of New Zealand, and Administra-
tor of the Government thereof, in exercise and
pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me
by the said recited Ordinance and Act, do hereby pro-
claim and declare that, from and after the date hereof,
the portion of the Manawatu Highway District de-
fined in the First Schedule hereto shall be and the
same is hereby separated from the said district, and
constituted into a new highway district, by the name
of the Sandon and Carnarvon Highway District;
and such district shall have the boundaries set forth
in the said First Schedule: And, in further exer-
cise of the powers and authorities aforesaid, I do
hereby divide the said Sandon and Carnarvon High-
way District into seven wards, the names and boun-
daries whereof are set forth in the Second Schedule
hereto.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

ALL that parcel in the Provincial District of Wel-
lington, bounded towards the North-east by the
Manchester Highway District, as described in the
Wellington Provincial Gazette No. 6, 1876, from the
Rangitikei River to the Oroua River; thence towards
the South-east by the said Oroua River to the Foxton
Railway; thence towards the South by the said Fox-
ton Railway, a railway reserve, and by Sections Nos.
323, 322, and 321, Block XIII., Te Kawau Survey
District, and the production of the northern boun-
dary of the last-mentioned section to the sea; thence
towards the West by the sea to the Rangitikei River;
and thence towards the North-west by the said Rangi-
tikei River to the said Manchester Highway District.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

WARD No. 1.

BOUNDED towards the North-east by the Manchester
Highway District; towards the East by a road front-
ing Sections Nos. 111, 110, 109, 115, 76, and 77,
Township of Sandon Block, Oroua Survey District,
to the Cemetery Road; thence towards the South by
said Cemetery Road to Ward No. 3, hereinafter de-
scribed; towards the South-west, South-east, and
North-east by said Ward No. 3; again towards the
South-east by Sections Nos. 214 and 222 of said
block; again towards the South-west by Section No.
2 to the main road from Foxton; again towards the
South-east by the said main road; towards the
South-west by a district road fronting Sections Nos.
15, 199, Block III., Te Kawau Survey District, Nos.
Sections Nos. 198, 197, 196, 189, 205, and 361,
Block II., to the Rangitikei River; and thence
towards the North-west by the said Rangitikei River
to the Manchester Highway District.

WARD No. 2.

Bounded towards the North-east by the Manchester
Highway District; towards the South-east by the
Oroua River; towards the South-west by the road
from Sandon to Palmerston to Ward No. 3, herein-
after described; thence towards the West by the said
Ward No. 3 and Ward No. 1, hereinbefore described,
to the Manchester Highway District.

WARD No. 3.

The Township of Sandon; and bounded towards the
North-east by Sections Nos. 8 and 7, Hutt Small
Farm Block, Rangitoto Survey District; towards the
South-east by Sections Nos. 142 and 214; towards
the South-west by Section No. 15; and towards the
North-west by said Section No. 15 and Section No.
9, all of said block.

WARD No. 4.

Bounded towards the North-east by Ward No. 2,
hereinbefore described; towards the South-east by
the Oroua River; towards the South by Native
Reserve No. 347, and by the southern boundary-line
of Native Reserve No. 346, to Section No. 304;
thence by the eastern and southern boundary-lines of
said Section No. 304, by Sections Nos. 23, 22, 21, 20,
19, and 18, Block VIII., Te Kawau Survey District,
by Sections Nos. 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and 84, Block
III., to the main road from Foxton; and thence
towards the North-west by the said main road, and
by Wards Nos. 1 and 3, hereinbefore described.

WARD No. 5.

Bounded towards the North-east by Ward No. 4,
hereinbefore described; towards the South-east by the
Oroua River to a point in line with the northern
boundary of Section No. 69, Block XL., Te Kawau
Survey District; thence towards the South by a right
line to said section; thence by said section, and Sec-
tions Nos. 68, 67, 66, 60, a road, Section No. 142 of
said Block XL., by Sections Nos. 141, 140, and 139,
Block VI., to the main road from Foxton; and
towards the West by the said main road to Ward No. 4.

WARD No. 6.

Bounded towards the North-east by Ward No. 1,
hereinbefore described; towards the South-east by
Wards Nos. 4 and 5, hereinbefore described, and by
the south-east side of main road from Foxton to the
Railway Reserve; thence towards the South by Sec-
tion Nos. 323, 322, and 321, and the production
of the last northern boundary of the last-mentioned
section, to the sea; thence towards the West by the
sea; and towards the North-west by the Rangitikei
River to Ward No. 1.

WARD No. 7.

Comprises the remaining portion of the district
not included in the above wards.

Given under the hand of His Excellency James
Prendergast, Esquire, Chief Justice, the
Administrator of the Government of Her
Majesty's Colony of New Zealand; and
issued under the Seal of the said Colony,
at the Government House, at Wellington,
this seventeenth day of November, in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight
