it may be stated that the official returns show that
there were imported into New Zealand, within the
last eight years, 15,500 tons of cast-iron, and 93,000
tons of wrought-iron, exclusive of iron for Govern-
ment and other railways, during which period 1,068
miles have been constructed and opened for traffic.

correspondents connected with the iron manufacture
are requested to be good enough to draw attention to
the highly advantageous and profitable field for enter-
prise which this colony presents to those who can
bring the necessary capital and practical experience
to bear upon such manufacture.

DONALD, Trustees of the real estate of GEORGE
RHODES, deceased, and the said Robert Heaton
Rhodes, plaintiffs, and THOMAS WADSWORTH,
defendant.

NOTICE is hereby given that, under a writ of
fieri facias, duly issued herein out of the
Supreme Court of New Zealand, Canterbury Dis-
trict, against the real and personal estate of the
above-named defendant at the suit of the above-
named plaintiffs, I have seized and taken into execu-
tion all the estate and interest of the above-named
defendant (comprising his estate in fee-simple in
possession, free from all encumbrances) in all that
piece or parcel of land containing by admeasurement
thirty acres, or thereabouts, situate in the County of
Geraldine, in the Provincial District of Canterbury,
New Zealand, and being the I. ral Section numbered
4407 on the map or plan of the Chief Surveyor of
the late Province of Canterbury, now the said pro-
vincial district, setting out and describing the rural
lands in the Timaru District thereof, together with
the hotel known as the "Orari Hotel," and the other
buildings and erections thereon; and that I intend
to cause the same to be sold by public auction, at
the auction-rooms of Messrs. John King and Co., in
the Borough of Timaru, on the twenty-first (21st) day
of February, 1879, at the hour of eleven o'clock in
the forenoon, unless the judgment debt and the costs
and expenses of and incidental to this execution be
previously paid and satisfied.

The Solicitor for the Execution Creditors is Arthur
Perry, Esq., of the Main South Road, in the said
Borough of Timaru.

IN THE DISTRICT COURT OF AUCKLAND, HOLDEN
AT GRAHAMSTOWN.

In the matter of "The Mining Companies Act, 1872,"
and in the matter of the New Morning Star Gold
Mining Company (Limited).

I, RODERICK MCDONALD SCOTT, of Thames,
Legal Manager, as the Liquidator appointed in
the above matter, do hereby give notice that I have
prepared a schedule showing the realized amount of
the assets and the liabilities of the Company, the
amount of money available for the claims in the
matter of the winding up, and of the proposed plan
of the distribution thereof. And such schedule is
now open for inspection in my office, at the corner of
Albert and Brown Streets, Grahamstown, by the
creditors of the said Company. And the claims men-
tioned in the said schedule will, after the lapse of
twenty-one days from the publication of this notice,
be paid at my said office.

NOTICE OF INTENTION TO CONSTRUCT WATER-
RACE.

Tuapeka, 12th December, 1878.

To the Warden at Lawrence.

WE hereby give notice that we intend to construct
a Water-race to divert and use water for
mining purposes, commencing at a point on the
Beaumont River, distant about two miles from
Flagstaff Hill, May's Diggings, and terminating at
Gabriel's Gully.

The length of such race is about thirty miles or
thereabouts, and its intended course is south-
easterly.

The mean depth of such race is 2 feet, and its
mean breadth is 3 feet, and it is proposed to
divert twenty Government-heads of water.

NOTICE OF INTENTION TO CONSTRUCT A WATER-
RACE.

To the Mining Registrar at Clyde of the Otago Gold
Fields Mining District, and all other persons
whom it may concern.

TAKE notice that it is intended to construct a
Water-race and divert water for domestic and
irrigation purposes, commencing at a point in Chasm
Creek, about half a mile above John McLaughlin's
Hotel, Shingle Creek, and terminating at the lagoon
opposite said hotel. The length of such race is about
half a mile, the mean breadth and depth of such race
is 20 inches by 6 inches, and it is proposed to divert
and carry one head of water. The race is already
constructed.
