NUN BUOY, OFF BRIGHTON.
REFERRING to a Notice to Mariners, dated the 20th
January, 1873, mariners are informed that the red
perch beacon placed on the outer patch of rocks
opposite the end of Park Street, Brighton, having
been carried away, it has been replaced by a white
nun buoy, moored 50 yards to seaward of the rocks,
10 feet at low water.

Sentence of Court of Inquiry into Wreck of
"Swallow" confirmed.
Marine Department,
Wellington, 15th July, 1879.
HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased
to confirm the following sentence of the
Court of Inquiry into the wreck of the brigantine
"Swallow," of Newcastle, N.S.W., official number
3910, 298 tons register, George Frederick Davies,
master, holding a New South Wales certificate of
competency as master, No. 205. The vessel was
totally wrecked at the entrance to Tory Channel,
Cook Strait, on the 28th ultimo.

THAT the loss appears by the evidence to have been
caused by gross neglect of the master, George
Frederick Davies, in not sufficiently studying the
tide; and our decision is that the certificate of
competency held by the said George Frederick
Davies, master of the said vessel, shall be suspended
three months; and that the said George Frederick
Davies do pay the costs of this inquiry, amounting to
two pounds twelve shillings."
Given under our hands this first day of July,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-nine, at Picton, in the County of Marl-borough, New Zealand.

under-mentioned gold-mining lease in the Nelson
South-West Gold Fields cancelled; and that the
ground is now open for application as if no lease of
the said ground had ever been applied for:—
Hugh Moran and others; 10 acres, District of
