conveyed to the Superintendent of the Province of
Canterbury on the eighteenth day of September, one
thousand eight hundred and sixty-one, for a public
railroad and railway station, and for such other pur-
poses or purpose of public utility as the Superinten-
dent of Canterbury should appoint:
And whereas the said reserve is for the purposes
named in Parts I. and II. of the Schedule to "The
Public Reserves Act Amendment Act, 1878," and, in
the opinion of the Administrator of the Government,
it is expedient to change the purpose of the portion
of such reserve referred to in the Schedule hereto to
one of the purposes named in Part III. of the said
Act:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Administrator
of the Government of the Colony of New Zealand,
by and with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the said colony, and in exercise of the
powers and authorities vested in him by the sixth
section of "The Public Reserves Act Amendment
Act, 1878," doth hereby order and direct that the
purpose of the portion of the reserve mentioned in
the first column of the Schedule hereto shall be
changed from that of a reserve for a public railroad
and railway station and other purposes; and doth
hereby declare and define the purposes of the said
portion of such reserve to be those specified in the
second column of the said Schedule, the same being
one of the purposes named in Part III. of the
Schedule to the said Act.

Commencing at a point on the north-western
side of the road running through the said
section in a south-westerly direction, the said
point being distant ninety-three links and one
half-link south-westerly from the north-east
corner of the said section; thence south-
westerly along the said road, eight chains
fifty-one links and two-fifths of a link;
thence north-westerly at an angle of 40° 23′,
two chains sixty-eight links and seven-tenths
of a link; thence north-easterly at an angle of
102° 42′, seventy-one links; thence north-
westerly at an angle of 96° 39', four chains
ninety-nine links and three-tenths of a link;
and from thence returning easterly by a
straight line, five chains fifty-one links and
three-tenths of a link, to the commencing

Now, therefore, I, James Prendergast, Esquire,
the Administrator of the Government of the Colony
of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the
powers and authorities vested in me by the said Act,
do hereby temporarily reserve from sale the land in
the Provincial District of Canterbury described in
the Schedule hereunder written, for the purpose in
the said Schedule specified.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that parcel of land situate in the Provincial Dis-
trict of Canterbury, containing by admeasurement
two (2) roods, more or less, in the Town of Ashburton.
Bounded North-eastward by Wakanui Road West,
South-westward by Burnett Street, South-eastward
by section numbered 1232, and North-westward by
section numbered 1229, and numbered 2388 (in red)
on the Official Map, in the Provincial District Survey
Office, Christchurch. For a site and grounds for
schools.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the
Administrator of the Government, this
twentieth day of March, one thousand
eight hundred and seventy-nine.

WHEREAS by the one hundred and forty-fourth
section of "The Land Act, 1877," it is enacted
that the Governor may from time to time, either by
general or particular description, and whether the
same has been surveyed or not, reserve from sale
temporarily, notwithstanding that the same may be
then held under pastoral license, any Crown lands
which in his opinion are required for any of the pur-
poses in the said section mentioned :
Now, therefore, I, James Prendergast, Esquire,

do hereby temporarily reserve from sale the land in
the Provincial District of Canterbury described in

(9) acres, more or less, in the Township of Waimate.
Bounded South-eastward by a line in continuation of
the south-east boundary of section 1861 (in red), 350
links, and by that section 750 links; North-eastward
by a line at right angles to the first-mentioned line,
1310 links; North-westward by a line at right angles
to the last-mentioned line, 550 links; and South-
westward by section 1861 (in red), 500 links, and by
the Waimate Creek; and numbered 2387 (in red) on
the Official Map in the Provincial District Survey
Office, Christchurch. For grounds for Hospital.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the
Administrator of the Government, this
