"Highways Act, 1871," brought into Operation within
the Woodville Highway District.
NORMANBY, Governor.
WHEREAS by an Act of the Provincial Council
of Hawke's Bay intituled "The Highways
Act, 1871," it is, amongst other things, enacted that
the Superintendent might, from time to time, on the
requisition of five voters, by notification in the Pro-
vincial Government Gazette, bring that Act into
operation in any district, and thereupon, but not
previously, that Act should come into and remain in
full operation therein; and in such notification the
day, hour, and place of meeting for the first meeting
of ratepayers for such district should be appointed:
And whereas, under the provisions of the said Act, a
portion of the Provincial District of Hawke's Bay
has been created a highway district by the name of
the Woodville Highway District: And whereas
the powers vested in the Superintendent by the said
Act are now, by "The Abolition of Provinces Act,
1875," vested in the Governor: And whereas His
Excellency the Governor has received a requisition
signed by five voters of the Woodville District, in
the Provincial District of Hawke's Bay, requesting
him to bring the said Act into operation in the said
Woodville District:
Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of every
power and authority enabling me in that behalf, do,
by this notification, bring "The Highways Act, 1871,"
into operation within the Woodville Highway Dis-
trict, and do declare that the first meeting of rate-
payers under the said Act shall be held at Mr.
Murphy's Hotel, Woodville, on the first day of
March, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
nine, at two o'clock p.m.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the
Governor, this eleventh day of February,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
nine.

Appointing Thomas Maddick Foy to lay off a Line
of Railway in the Hawera Survey District.
NORMANBY, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the power and
authority vested in me under certain regula-
tions made by Order in Council, dated the nineteenth
day of February, one thousand eight hundred and
seventy-four, and issued under "The New Zealand
Settlements Act, 1863," and the other Acts in such
Order in Council mentioned, I, George Augustus
Constantine, Marquis of Normanby, Governor of
the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby appoint
THOMAS MADDICK FOY, Esquire,
Civil Engineer, of Hawera, an authorized Surveyor,
to take and lay off for public purposes one line of
railway through the several lands mentioned in the
Schedule hereto; such railway to be taken and laid
off subject to the terms of the said regulations.
SCHEDULE.
SECTIONS numbered 526, 536, 544, 543, 545, 538,
540, 539, 568, situate in the Hawera Survey District,
Provincial District of Taranaki.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the
Governor, this eleventh day of February,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
nine.

Notification of the Payment of Money on and Entry
into Negotiations for the Purchase of Native Lands
in the North Island.

IN pursuance of the provisions of "The Government
Native Land Purchases Act, 1877," it is hereby
notified that money has been paid by or on behalf of
Her Majesty the Queen for the purchase or acquisi-
tion of the several blocks of Native land in the North
Island which are more particularly described and
mentioned in the Schedule hereto; and, further,
that negotiations in respect of such purchases or
acquisitions as aforesaid have been entered into by
or on behalf of Her said Majesty.
SCHEDULE.
HUKATERE.
ALL that block of land at Te Wairoa, in the District of
Kaipara, in the Provincial District of Auckland, known
as Hukatere, containing by admeasurement 10410
acres, be the same more or less. Bounded towards the
North-west by the Waihangarua Stream, by the Unu-
whao Block, 5060 links, and by the Ruatuna Creek;
towards the North-east by the Ruatuna and Okorako
branches of the Arapaoa River, by lines 720 links and
3602 links, by the Kirikiri and Waokauri branches of
the aforesaid Arapaoa River, by lines 3228 links and
1927 links, and by the Raepare branch of the afore-
said Arapaoa River; towards the South-east by lines
4653 links and 14319 links, and by the Wairoa River;
and towards the South-west by the said Wairoa
River. Together with the adjacent Island of Papuaia,
containing 4 acres and marked "A" on the plan
of the said Hukatere Block, and also all that portion
of the Island of Kaiwhetu coloured red on the said
plan, containing 3 acres, and bounded towards the
South-east by a line 519 links. This block has
passed the Native Land Court.
WAIKOROPUPU.
All those blocks of land in the District of Hoki-
anga, in the Provincial District of Auckland, known
as Waikoropupu Nos. 1, 2, and 3, containing by ad-
measurement 8,156 acres, or thereabouts. Bounded
towards the South-west by Native land, 1620 links
and 947 links; towards the West by the Omahuta
Block, 3833 links, 693 links, 1552 links, 18194 links,
2935 links, 707 links, 4503 links, and 3400 links;
towards the North-west and North by the Pupuke
Block, 2295 links, 2540 links, 2858 links, 3433 links,
and 1287 links; again on the North and North-east
by the Whakatetarekaia Stream to the mouth of the
Mangakino Creek; on the East by the Omataroa
Block and the Mangapa Stream; on the South by the
Mangapukahukahu Stream and Block, 1605 links,
708 links, 2270 links, 2952 links, 875 links, and 566
links; again on the South by Native land, 5218 links,
1540 links, 631 links, 654 links, 725 links, 983 links,
