police officer or constable, fail to produce and show
to such person, police officer, or constable his license,
shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding twenty
pounds.
6. All trout not exceeding seven inches in length
and any salmon whatever, taken by any person fishing
as aforesaid, shall be immediately returned alive to
the said river, and any person convicted of infringing
this regulation shall be liable to a penalty not ex-
ceeding twenty pounds sterling, and his license shall
thereupon become void.
7. Except as aforesaid, no person shall fish or use
any net or other engine, instrument, or device for
taking fish in any river or stream within the Coun-
ties of Fiord, Wallace, and Southland, and all persons
offending against this regulation shall be liable to a
penalty not exceeding fifty pounds.
8. Any person who puts, throws, or places, or
allows to be put, thrown, or placed into any river or
stream in the said Counties of Fiord, Wallace, and
Southland, any dynamite or other explosive substance,
or any matter or liquid deleterious to fish, shall be
liable to a penalty not exceeding one hundred pounds.

Conditions for Trout Fishing in Southland.
NORMANBY, Governor.
IN pursuance of the powers and authorities vested
in him by "The Salmon and Trout Act, 1867,"
His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New
Zealand doth hereby make the following regulations
for the District of Southland :---
REGULATIONS.
- These regulations shall come into force on the
first day of October, one thousand eight hundred
and seventy-eight. - Any holder of a license, as hereinafter men-
tioned, may fish with rod and line for trout in the
Rivers Waihopai and Waikiwi from the first day of
October next until the thirty-first day of December,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-eight; and
in the River Makarewa from the first day of Novem-
ber to the thirtieth day of November next. - Licenses to fish with rod and line in the said
rivers will be issued under the hand of the Secretary
to the Southland Acclimatization Society at Inver-
cargill, and for every license a fee of twenty shillings
will be charged. - No license shall authorize any person other than
the person named therein to fish, and that only with
rod and line. - Any person fishing without a license, or any
person who shall on demand of any person holding
and showing a license, or on the demand of any

for the Provincial District of Canterbury:---
REGULATIONS.
- These regulations shall come into force on the
sixteenth day of October, one thousand eight hundred
and seventy-eight. - Any holder of a license, as hereinafter men-
tioned, may fish with rod and line for trout in the
rivers of Canterbury from the sixteenth day of
October next until the thirty-first day of March, one
thousand eight hundred and seventy-nine. - Licenses to fish with rod and line in the said
rivers will be issued under the hand of the Secretary
of the Acclimatization Society at Christchurch, and
for every license a fee of twenty shillings will be
charged. - The Regulations Nos. four, five, six, seven, and
eight, of the regulations of the eleventh day of
October, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
seven, published in the New Zealand Gazette of the
eleventh day October, one thousand eight hundred
and seventy-seven, page one thousand and ten, shall,
so far as applicable, be incorporated with and form
part of these regulations.
