The above rates may be charged between the hours
of 7 o'clock a.m. and 8 o'clock p.m. during the months
of October, November, December, January, Febru-
ary, and March, and between the hours of 7 a.m. and
7 p.m. during the remaining months of the year.
Double the above rates may be charged after the
above-mentioned hours.

Regulations.

  1. Carriages for traffic shall commence running
    not later than 7 o'clock a.m., and cease running not
    earlier than 7 o'clock p.m.
  2. Carriages for traffic shall run at least three
    times each way each day.
  3. The Company shall have power to stop their
    carriages at corners of streets, and other convenient
    places, for the purpose of taking up and putting
    down passengers and parcels.
  4. The rate of speed of the carriages in no case
    shall exceed a maximum rate of ten miles per hour,
    and round street corners and in crowded thorough-
    fares the carriages shall travel only at a reasonable
    speed, such as the circumstances of the case may
    require.

Appointing Places for holding Licensing Courts.

NORMANBY, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of all powers and au-
thorities enabling me in this behalf, I, George
Augustus Constantine, Marquis of Normanby, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby
appoint that sittings of the Licensing Court for the
Licensing District of Lower Wairarapa shall, until
otherwise ordered, be held at the Resident Magis-
trate's Courthouse at Featherston; that sittings of
the Licensing Court for the Licensing District of
Upper Wairarapa shall, until otherwise ordered, be
held at the Resident Magistrate's Courthouse at
Carterton; and that sittings of the Licensing Court
for the Licensing District of Whareama shall, until
otherwise ordered, be held at the Public Hall, Tinui.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the
Governor, this twenty-fourth day of
September, one thousand eight hundred
and seventy-eight.

Returning Officers for County Council Elections
appointed.

NORMANBY, Governor.

WHEREAS by section fifty-two of "The Counties
Act, 1876," it is, amongst other things, pro-
vided that, for the purposes of the elections in any
county in which the whole of that Act is not in force,
the Governor shall have full power to make all such
appointments, and to fix all such times for the doing
of anything requiring to be done in such county:
And whereas the whole of the Counties Act is not
in force in the counties set out in the Schedule
hereto: And whereas it is desirable to appoint the
persons whose names are set out in the second column
of the Schedule hereto Returning Officers in and for
the ridings of the said several counties set forth in
the first column of the Schedule hereto, opposite the
name of each such person respectively:

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the
powers and authorities vested in me by the said
"Counties Act, 1876," do hereby appoint the persons
named in the second column of the Schedule hereto
to be Returning Officers to conduct the elections of
the County Councillors for the ridings respectively
set opposite their names in the first column of the
said Schedule.
