IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and
authorities vested in me by the regulations made
under "The District Railways Act, 1877," by
warrant dated the eleventh day of July, one thou-
sand eight hundred and seventy-eight, published in
the Gazette No. 68, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, do hereby appoint

GEORGE LESLIE LEE,

of Christchurch, Esquire, to be Presiding Officer for
the railway district within which the Rakaia and
Ashburton Forks Railway Company (Limited) pro-
pose to construct a railway under the said Act, and
to constitute a railway district.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and Baron
Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the County
of York, in the Peerage of the United
Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave of New
Ross, in the County of Wexford, in the
Peerage of Ireland; a Member of Her
Majesty's Most Honorable Privy Coun-
cil; Knight Grand Cross of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's
Colony of New Zealand and its Depen-
dencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same;
at the Government House, at Wellington,
this twenty-fifth day of July, in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and seventy-eight.

Extension of Time for the taking of Ratepayers' and
Owners' Votes in the Railway District, Rakaia
and Ashburton Forks Railway.

NORMANBY, Governor.

WHEREAS by section twelve of "The District
Railways Act, 1877," it is, amongst other things,
enacted that, within sixty days from the deposit of
the plan and book of reference, the votes of the rate-
payers and owners of property within a proposed
railway district shall be taken: And whereas the
Rakaia and Ashburton Forks Railway Company
(Limited) propose to construct within a portion of
the Provincial District of Canterbury a railway
under the said Act, and on the fourteenth day of
June, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-eight,
did duly deposit the plan and book of reference pur-
suant to the said Act: And whereas by section
fifteen of the said Act it is, amongst other things,
enacted that, if from any cause it shall not be
practicable to take the votes within the said period
of sixty days, the Governor may extend the time for
such period as he thinks fit, not exceeding twenty-
one days from the expiration of such sixty days:
And whereas some considerable time will elapse in
the requisite formation and revision of lists of per-
sons entitled to vote under the said Act in the dis-
trict which it is proposed to constitute a railway
district for the purposes of the construction of the
said railway, and otherwise in carrying the provisions
of the said Act into effect; and it will not be prac-
ticable to take the votes within the said period of
sixty days:

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance of the powers and
authorities vested in me by the said Act, do hereby
extend the time within which the votes of the rate-
payers and owners of property in the proposed rail-
way district may be taken for a period of twenty-one
days computed from the expiration of the said period
of sixty days.

Land temporarily reserved in the Provincial District
of Auckland.

NORMANBY, GOVERNOR.

WHEREAS by the one hundred and forty-fourth
section of "The Land Act, 1877," it is enacted
that the Governor may from time to time, either by
general or particular description, and whether the
same has been surveyed or not, reserve from sale
temporarily, notwithstanding that the same may be
then held under pastoral license, any Crown lands
which in his opinion are required for any of the
purposes in the said section mentioned:

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the
powers and authorities vested in me by the said Act,
do hereby temporarily reserve from sale the land in
the Provincial District of Auckland described in the
Schedule hereunder written, for the purpose in the
said Schedule specified.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that parcel of land in the Provincial District of
Auckland, containing by admeasurement eight (8)
acres two (2) roods and seven (7) perches, more or
less, situate in the Thames District, and known by
the name of Tanutanu. Bounded towards the East
by a line, seven hundred and three (703) links;
towards the South-east by a line, eight hundred and
thirty-seven (837) links; towards the South by a
line, three hundred and forty-two (342) links;
towards the West by lines two hundred and fourteen
(214) links, two hundred and twenty-seven (227)
links, two hundred and thirty-seven (237) links, and
two hundred and ninety (290) links; and towards
the North by lines, three hundred and eight (308)
links and five hundred and twenty-six (526) links.

For the purpose of a cemetery.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the
Governor, this twenty-second day of July,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
eight.
